Man, I remember Sambo's. How in the hell did they get away with a name like that?

Sometimes I wished I had worked in a reastaurant when I was younger for that very reason you can cook your own food. If you're a moderately good cook and have a bunch of ingredients to use then you can come up with some pretty creative/tasty things that aren't on the menu. Also ensures you don't use too much oil/butter/salt and food would be clean.

Ooh. I just remembered Corn Dog 7. I loved their cheese on a stick. That said, I just googled it, and it says they still have 2 locations left, with one of them being in The Woodlands.

I will be heading there tomorrow.

Panjo's was some of the best pizza ever. It was brought up last time we had a thread like this, along with Pipe Organ, Leo's and a few others.

Grandy's? Come on, that's a chain and they aren't ALL gone, are they? And is it really THAT good? I don't remember it being that great. Pizza Inn? Really? There's one about a mile from my house... still kicking... and the thin crust is the same as it ever was.

Back on topic though, next someone will mention Shakey's and Farrel's, if memory serves.

One might even throw Otto's BBQ in there, since I think they're only serving burgers in the up front part there, nowadays, if I'm not mistaken.

I don't know about Lucky Bar's pizza, but they have an awesome selection of beer, and it is always a good time there.

"The Story of Little Black Sambo"

A popular U.S. restaurant chain of the 1960s and 1970s, Sambo's, borrowed characters from the book (including Sambo and the tigers) for promotional purposes, although the Sambo name was originally a combination of the founders' nicknames: Sam (Sam Battistone) and Bo (Newell Bohnett). Nonetheless, the controversy about the book led to accusations of racism that contributed to the 1,117-restaurant chain's demise in the early 1980s. Images inspired by the book (now considered by some racially insensitive) were common interior decorations in the restaurants. Though portions of the original chain re-named themselves "No Place Like Sam's" to try to forestall closure, all but the original restaurant in Santa Barbara, California had closed by 1982.

I can't believe nobody's mentioned Hamburgers By Gourmet.

I've been vegan for decades but I still miss their bacon cheeseburger.

Hey Fatty: This is the last week for the play. Hope you can make it out.

Showbiz was turned into Chuck-e-cheese I think. I remember going to Pistol Pete's Pizza but don't remember where it was located.

+1 on Bonanza, JoJo's, Del Taco and Two Pesos. All of those places have memories for me at different times in my life.

Bostan Sea Party - I was kidnapped and carjacked from in front of that place when I worked for Z-107.5 in the radio station van. One of the two times in my life where I felt like I could possibly die (the other was an offshore fishing trip where we got caught in a huge storm with no radio and one of our engines failed but that's another story).

I can add Bennigan's. We used to go there and to Chili's in highschool. I remember that Bennigan's food really declined over the years and we stopped going (either that or my tastes matured!) but that Chili's remained consistant. I remember getting kicked out of a Bennigan's with a group of friends for trying to sneak alcohol.

Also, there used to be these Denny's-like places called Champs that had an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet that was pretty good when you were drunk. I don't know if it's related to the Champs restaurants that are out in the suburbs now.

The closest Grandy's to Houston is in Victoria. You can be there in two hours. I went there a couple years ago to enjoy all they have to offer.

Pistol Pete's was located in Pasadena at the corner of Spencer Hwy and South Shaver. I think there is some sort of taqueria located there now.

Anyone remember Po'Folks? There was one near I-10/Federal Rd in the same parking lot where the Tinseltown is. There is a Chili's located in the exact same spot currently.

Western Sizzlin are mostly in Oklahoma. Sambo's, as a black man, i still liked it even though it was a trip as far as a name. We used to have a sirloin stockade near swt. We used to have a place in La Marque called Bonus Burger. They had the best burgers. In austin there was this place called Shields Pizza off Bee caves road. Best Pizza in the US and I've eaten pretty much every where.
