Yep now I remember Grandy's off 45 and woodridge or somewhere around there. They replaced it with either Denny's or IHOP.
There was a Ruby Red's hamburger place where you got shelled peanuts and you were encouraged to toss the shells onto the floor...
How about "The Strawberry Patch" on Westheimer.... They had fresh strawberry muffins and the BEST burgers! I think a Pappas place is there now, maybe a steak house? Though they bulldozed the old place and rebuilt in it's lot.
Yes, Zero's is the closest thing to what Zappo's was like. Sadly, they are all in downtown, and only open for lunch, so I'm never able to go there.
Chicken George - fast food chicken joint Steak and Ale - Very popular steak restaurant. Roadhouse Grill
Every other Saturday. Should've said every Saturday that my Dad picked me up. And yes, I was (and still am) one HAIRY b*stard. I loved Grandy's. Their double chicken-fried steak meal was amazing. The rolls would melt in your mouth. I would dip them in my baked beans. And the old lady inside that would refill your drinks. What about Bennigans? The monte christo, baby.
They still have Grandy's. They have one north of dallas in allen-weston. They have one in atlanta,tx. theyre few and far between, but they still have them. I know this cause i used to drive big rigs. The cinnamon rolls with the butter are still the bomb!
We still have one here too, I love the deluxe breakfast sandwich. Served on a biscuit, with eggs, cheese and chicken fried steak patty.
Remember "Kettle" or "Pitt's?" Most in the Houston area were Kettle. Our local one had a table top Pacman... Awesome fun.
Two Pesos. I can't recall how many times I was there after a night at club soda, cars, splash, EFX, numbers and all those underage night clubs.
Toddle House -- Like a waffle house but smaller. Had a friend who worked the over night there and he use to make me cook my own stuff but I'd get it for free.
