Sushi - fish eggs? People really eat fish eggs??? Mushrooms - it's fungus. Why would anyone eat fungus??
^ Bread has yeast. Why would anyone eat YEAST? Oh, here is another "eat yeast" related post: Right. Don't you eat it?
I love broccoli so much I could eat it every day. Raw, cooked, pureed, freshly steamed...I don't see how anyone could hate broccoli. I don't really have any food phobias. Well, maybe except that **** that TSchmal posted.
that damn corn from flamingo chill makes me run out the room whenever someones eating it, ish smells like straight foot yo and also liver...bleh
Mustard mayonaisse and ketchup. Wife is the same way I've heard they discovered a gene that determines if you are a brocolli hater
I totally forgot! I DO hate/fear a food...with a passion. It's cilantro. And I think it really is a genetic thing.
I'd say I have a phobia. It's not a fear of being poisoned, because I can actually eat some pretty sketchy stuff. I don't fear it tasting bad, because I can chew tylenol and that tastes terrible. Maybe looking gross is part of it, but there are some things I fear that look and smell inviting. There's some element of fearing the unknown. Being a phobia, it's irrational and I don't think I can explain it neatly. But, it gives me extreme anxiety like a panic attack.
I myself don't have any real food phobias, but I have a friend who's a food racist. She can't eat anything darker than she is (she's Indian), so blue corn tortillas, black beans, dark chocolate, etc. is out. It's a weird problem. But then again, she's a little weird.
I can't eat squid. I still feel like it's alive, even if it's been fried to death. Strawberries bring out the biggest fear in me since I'm allergic. =(
You mean corn in a cup? If it's what I think you're saying, the smell is the combination of CORN+Parmesan+Mayo
YES. I don't fear cilantro, but that stuff is AWFUL. I think there is a chemical (phenylthiocarbamide) in it that some people can taste and some can't. It's like that test you'd do in high school biology... those little strips that some people could taste, others can't. For cilantro, those that can taste the chemical find cilantro to be bitter and horrible. http://www.ihatecilantro.com/ -- UNITE! That said, I wouldn't classify it as a phobia, just something I really hate. I don't mind seeing other people eat it or seeing it, etc., etc. like I do fermented foods as mentioned previously.
Cole slaw. Just the thought of it nearly makes me gag. I just can't stand the texture, and then the tangy taste of the usual dressing and vinegar it's bathed in. Interesting, these are two things I never cared for all that much before, but recently I've grown to really like both of them. I was a little weirded out by the fish egg thing too, but as long as it tastes good you just don't think about it. Mushrooms sauteed in a little butter and garlic salt and then topped on a burger is absolutely amazing.
