So I ate Thelma's BBQ the other day and loved it. It got me wondering what other good eats are around UH. I've been to Timmy Chan (meh) as well, but what's near UH that I might otherwise miss?

And for those of you who have never been there, Thelma's is awesome .

Depends what you mean by "near" UH.

There's a pretty good Oriental Buffet off of 45 S.. exit Monroe. But that could be a long drive (about 5-7 minutes) if you're planning on going between classes.

    Frenchy's, dawg

Mandola's deli on Cullen (across 45) is also good, but they close at 3 PM, IIRC

Jenni's Noodle House was a great place to go but the moved locations away from UH.

Westheimer is actually a really short drive from UH if you stay off the freeways and go the back way. So there is a lot of stuff there.

Oh wait, how could I forget..

    CREAM BURGER!!

Look for the red mobile home parked across from the Chevron station with the iron bars across the windows, it may look closed, but just knock a few times and someone will eventually answer.

If you've never been to Frenchy's, go there today. It's on Scott Street. Get the King Special.

I tried Frenchy's for the first time with moes, finals, and kam a few months ago. It's pretty decent, although not as orgasmic as I would expect with all the hype.

I'd definitely go back there tho.

one of the best Thai restaurants in Houston is Kanomwan, on Telephone across I-45 from UofH.

It actually won the Houston Press "Best Thai" award last year.

    I agree...but that's midtown.
