The best Chinese dish I've ever had is called, get this, beef on a stick. Not a very Chinese sounding name, I know, but it's really good. It's these strips of brushed with this heavenly sauce. I think they're pan fried. Then, they serve the beef strips on skewers with little grill like device that has an open flame in it. I just set the meat over the fire for about a minute each, and it chars it a little. Freaking awesome... I tried a Vietmanese sandwich for the first time a couple weeks ago. It was charbroiled pork with carrots, cucumber, and cilantro. Pretty damn good, too...
Peking Duck was really good, but thats about it. I was in China for 3 weeks and lost 11 lbs. I also has some cheesy Lobster that was good. Other than those 2 dishes, I found the food very disgusting, things like sea anemone. I didnt know what a bunch of things I ate were. I was with this Chinese people and they would tell me every dish was "Chinese Pizza", and then they would all laugh.
"Who can get they thing sucked while they boo boo... I can/ by a Chinese @#$%^ who just fixed Moo Goo Gai Pan..."
of course there are going to be terrible places in china and taiwan..im pretty sure that applies to every genre of food in every country..im just saying stuff that comes from pf changs and the likes is NOT chinese food..its some kind of fusion of diff things maybe a hint of chinese..lol
Actually you can experience and experiment for yourself when you go to those Chinese restaurants that have two types of menus, one serving general American customers and another one catering for local Chinese communities. The dishes on the latter menu are generally more *authentically* Chinese. But how do you know if a Chinese restaurant is good (meaning, authentic)? As a rule of thumb, the more crowded by Chinese, the better.
I started a thread like this a few months ago. I cannot remember what I said was my favorite. I like it all.
Chongqing spicy chicken or chongqing fish. Also there is a scallop dish that I can't remember that is awesome.
On the american chinese side - the Grand Marnier Prawns from Chin Chin in midtown manhattan are awesome. I once ate at Mr. Chow's in London and it was top notch, cannot remember what i had though.
i've had it once. it was mouldy cabbages in brine, salted fish in too much black bean that's really salty, some gross taro dumpling dish with dried shrimp that looked like diarrhea, and some pork dish that was alright. i'd stick to the yum chas.
Peking duck. That crispy skin wrapped in pancakes is heaven. Pan fried noodles are really good too (HK dish). Steamed fish, dim sum, crispy beef (I have a hard time finding this)...and on and on.
Panda Garden- General Tso's Chicken COMBO, with crab puff (omg SO GOOD), rice and egg drop soup. The Nit Noi Thai restaurant is pretty good too in the Village.
I can't believe the CRAP that gets passed off as "Chinese" food here. Most of it isn't Chinese at all. Just a bunch of msg laced garbage. I will only eat 'real' Chinese food... ie. the Chinese place in the mall food court with the Mexican cooks.
the Chinese restaurant that I worked at had the Mexican illegals cook the food and the Chinese dudes washed dishes
