I didn't eat the tea/lotus leaves, sillies! I could taste the flavor of the leaves baked into the rice!
I don't see how you can separate the sticky rice from the tea leaves, which are easily torn apart whether they are subject to heat or not. Are you sure you were not duped by some Chinese waitresses, gimp?
okay, tea-tasting lotus leaves! And one of those waitresses almost duped me into eating chicken feets
Well I almost pee'd outta my **** and began mobilizing my feet for evacuation when she took the lid off that dish..
Once again, it's not tea leaves, it's lotus leaves. Also, it is a steamed dish, so the steam permeates the flavor of the leaves onto the rice. Gimp, how can you be duped into eating chicken feet? You can't tell it's some kind of feet when you ate it? Now that you've tried it, do you like it? When I take my non-asian friends to dim sum, I order it and challenge them to eat it. The ones that ate it really liked it. Also, the literal Chinese term for the chicken feet dish is "Phoenix Claws".
Oh well, everything is lost in translation. I can imagine the Dim Sum restaurant owners in your area are gonna beat me up really good.
Well I was admittedly too "chicken" to try it at this place in Houston, but I did try one foot in Chinatown, San Francisco last year......the flavor was okay but it felt like I was eating all skin and bones.....plus I kept thinking about all the places the chicken had probably stepped down with that foot all his life! ...I'm sticking w/ the sticky tea, err lotus, leaf rice from now on......that and the shrimp shu mai... there is also another good dish that is some kind of beef wrapped in smooth rice pancakes that they pour soy sauce over.... also, anyone know a place in Houston that serves Chinese congee?
Ya, Fung's business has really taken off since introducint Dim Sum at their place. There lobby is PACKED out the door on Sundays, the quality of their food is much better than Ocean Palace. Pippendagimp- Most dim sum places have congee as well. I can't remember the name, but there is one restaraunt on Bellaire that has good congee. Maybe you guys can help me out, it's right next door to Di Ho Supermarket on the left hand side. If you order it to-go, they sometimes give it to you in a clay pot you can take home.
Here's my list: Chinese- Sinh Sinh BBQ- Papas on 59 in Houston, Iron Works in Austin Mexican- Gringos or Lopez Italian- Macaroni Grill Burgers and stuff: Sweet Mesquite For you Thai food lovers, try Thai Spice on Bellaire.
P.S. You gotta love their meat suffed potatoes. So good. You should try the frito pie...highly reccomended. As far as the sausage, I used to live on their sausage wraps (essentially a piece of sausage covered in bar-b-q sauce and wrapped in a slice of bread) when I was in elementary. My babysitter took me by that place like every day.
For those that live in Austin, there is no Chinese food that even remotely comes close to anything in Houston...unfortunate, but Din Ho is the best one out of all of them... Anyone know where I can get some damn good beef ribs?
