It means exactly what it says. You even agreed with me in your post, i.e. there are different strains. Even if they "nailed" it (which I'm know if they did), that doesn't change the fact you can still get the flu

^^^ this... except I didn't know they nailed it this year. I guess all the flu outbreaks this year happened to a majority of people that didn't get a flu shot...

I've never had the flu in years when I've had a flu shot. Anybody that thinks they get the flu because of the flu shot is false. This year I took the flu shot when I was sick (not the flu) which was fine.

However, if you already have the flu, or had the flu, then you can probably skip the flu shot this year. It can still help fight other strains, but if your flu shot happens to carry the same strain as the flu you already had, then the shot won't benefit you at all.

I'm a pharmacist. My store vaccinated more than 900+ people since late August till mid-December. We thought we peaked. Oh then one day, a line of 15 people asking for flu vaccines and we didn't have enough (supply is limited now). I was like WTF??? Then I heard about the news. We have been giving out 30 vaccination the past few days. I expect a bigger line today b/c we are getting more in stock. Yay :(

just wash you hands often and if your gonna be around a lot of people...get the vaccine...

Regardless...whatever strain is going around is making some quite sick...so just get the vaccine if you are able to do so(which is everyone except a few folks)

everyone knows you can get the flu vaccine and still get the flu. they don't cover all the strains for each season. I get the flu vaccine every year because I work with kids.

I got a flu shot from Kaiser Permanente in California in November. My wife got the same vaccine in October. We traveled to Houston for Christmas and a day after getting off the plane she started to show symptoms- runny nose, sore throat, and sneezes. we thought it was allergies to the cat at my parents house. we went to the Rockets game v Memphis and when we got home she was 101.3. this was the 22nd. she was in bed for the next 48 hours.

by Christmas Eve I started to experience the same signs and Christmas morning I was done for.

aching, shaking, sweats and chills, hacking cough, runny nose, head felt like a 50 pound weight. and the most stubborn fever that made me feel like I was hallucinating.

I didn't take Thera Flu or Vicks anything, but I battled the fever with a regular regimen of acetaminophen that did its job pretty well.

all my Houston friends said they all had it and I'm pretty sure this was the thing that had George Bush in Methodist Hospital.

    Big Pharma, man

    Prevention is key.

Do what you can to build up your immune system. Emergen-C is great (and tastes half decent), echinacea, avoid sugar and junk food, eat lots of healthy food (especially fresh fruits and vegetables) and there's no substitute for getting good sleep every night.

There is also a homeopathic medicine called Oscillococcinum for flu symptoms that is best when used at the onset of symptoms. It can be found in about any drug store. My naturopath told me it can also be used as a flu prevention. Just take about 1/4 a vial once a week during flu season. They taste like sugar crystals... very easy to take. No side effects at all to worry about. You may think, 'is this really doing anything??' when you take it, but it's worth a shot.

Frequent hand washing is important. Use the sanitizing wipes to wipe grocery cart handles. Carry hand sanitizer when you are out and use it often. Germs can spread easily from objects that many people touch... like door handles, etc.

Some flu virus strains are so bad they'll still knock you down, but I think most of the time prevention measures will help you avoid getting sick.

Stay well... or get well soon!

I got sick when I got back from Vegas but the symptoms were mild. IDK if it was a cold. I only had runny nose and tiredness. No fever or coughing. I got the flu shot in November.

Flu is not a joke. Had it years ago. Awful stuff.

Man, what are some more voodoo cures?

I tried gargling cayenne pepper and ACV.

    Still feel like ****.

Got invited out the the Jason Abbot concert, and although I hate country the night would have ended nicely ;). But I'm too sick to go out. :(

I'm pretty sure I'm a walking biohazard right now, luckily I was able to work out of the house most the week.
