Does that mean that Yao could average well over 30+ points if he were to take 25 shots a game like he did in Shanghai Sharks?

    That would definitely be something.;)

dont forget the mpg 36.4 for stoudamire to 31.8 for yao. that kind of even things out. granted it is yao's fault for not being able to stay out of foul trouble and stay on the court, but if you are just looking at productivity both guys are relatively close.

amare got NASH, and if refs treat Yao fairly, he is 20/9 guy now. If Yao does not give up RBs to his team mates he is 20/11 now

giving up rebounds to his teammates isnt the problem. the problem is when he gives up ON rebounds and doesn't bother to position himself or make a step for the ball.

He obviously expects more out of #1 pick. We really goofed by not taking Jay "Can't Miss" Williams instead. Who needs a guy that'll probably make 3rd (maybe 2nd) team all-NBA Center again this year, and is among the most popular basketball players in the world? Big men are so easy to come by in the L anyway.

    Clearly, he's a bust.

Yao is two ref. calls away from 20/10 (one call for 2 free throws and one call for OFF rebounding)

I know this is kinda off topic as such, but whenever Yao screws up on a shot or a rebound or makes a stupid foul, it always cracks me up how he throws a fist downwards and looks pissed. It reminds me of how young he really is.

I get frustrated with Ming often, but he is playing well recently. And I agree, those five might be pretty competitive as a team.

Darius Miles anyone? He had the best year of his career last year, signed a Mo Taylor-esque contract, and is now sucking ass. Oh yeah, throw in some racial slurs directed at his coach.

why does that have anything to do with how young he is? he is just mad at himself.

I'm surprised anyone can work with Florida's sunny weather, but this guy's brain is obviously baked!

This dude is a complete moron. The whole height/weight = production is r****ded. Putting Kobe on the list is dumb too.

How about all those high priced free agents from this summer? Boozer, Kmart, Okur....big guys on losing teams.

Oh well....Another idiot writer tryin' to make a name for himself.

As long as YAO keeps scoring and hittin' game winning free throws I'm happy.

If the Yao we see now is the flag bearer for mediocrity then I am very excited. I will take that everyday of the week and twice on Sundays.

This article actually made my day. This is great news for this franchise - can you imagine what Yao will be like when he leaves "mediocrity" in a year or two? Monster!!!

PS. I don't even want to tackle the height abd weight argument - it is way too elementary and to easily to tear apart.

That team would win a championship with a decent coach and some average subs to make it a full squad.

Also, I would like to hear these Yao critics explain how big of a dissappointment that Bill Russell was.

Bill Russell Average about 15.5 ppg for his career. Of course he also average about 22.5 rebounds, but this was a different sort of game. Bill was playing when the shot 102 per/game to the Rockets 78 shots per/game this year.

Now, I'm not saying that Yao is as good as Bill Russell, but traditional stats cannot define a player that is not traditional. Basically, I'm sick of people claiming the story is a dissappointment before it's over. I guess the writer is just trying to turn some heads.

I think the author is talking about fantasy NBA. All these 5 players perhaps were drafted higher than they should be.
