the funny thing is if you put the 5 most disappointing players on the same team they would make the playoffs in the west.

    yao
    KVH
    spree
    kobe
    GP

Yeah i agree. GP is on the downside of his career and its tough for me to see him averaging more pts or assists than he is right now. Same can be said for Sprewell who is also on a very deep team and doenst get as many shots as he got last year since Hudson and Wally are healthy. As for Yao, the expectations are just too high for him right now and yeah i do think he has the highest ppg and rpg average for a player above 7'3.

When a player makes average 10-13 shoot attemps per gam and he is averaging 18.6/8.5, he sure is the most dissapointing athelete in the whole planet. :)

wow... this is just bad writing.

sounds like some average guy who glances at box scores is writing something to meet a deadline.

even a casual NBA fan may know better than this.

It's like he's saying that he's expecting KVH, Spree, and GP to have all start seasons. Reality check--those guys are way past their primes okay?

Compare Yao's numbers this year to the guy who beat him out for rook of the year:
    Amare vs. Yao
    26.1 pts vs. 18.3
    8.6 boards vs. 8.5
    1.6 assists vs. 0.8
    1.6 blocks vs. 1.9
    (all per game)

They rip on his boards, but really, I'm more bitter that he hasn't broken the 20 pt. barrier yet. Maybe if they actually called a foul every once in a while and Yao shot more than 2 free throws a game ...

name one player in the league that averages 6-8 OFFENSIVE rebounds.

who the hell expected payton to come near his career numbers? oh...and when you pass the ball and it directly leads to a basket - it's an ASSIST...not a "rebound."

who thought they would have a shot? name one person...i mean come on - they lost shaq, payton, malone, and jackson -- this writer is a complete dumbass.

    Eastern champ contender anyone?

Lack strength at the 4 spot, so I wouldnt put'em too high in the West. But certainly enough to domninate the East for years to come :)

OMG, this guy is way late on the "Yao sucks" bandwagon. I want to hear what sportswriters have to say now.

Florida sports writers are sore losers. Why don't they write something about Magic which is in a funk right now?

How can Yao be "most disappointing" when everybody was questioning whether the Rockets should have drafted him in the first place. I bet this same yahoo was calling Yao another skinny 7'5" jump shooter before the draft.

So he want from draft day bust to a projected 30/15 guy to disappointing? The only people he is disappointing are the people that overreact to box scores.

People make like Yao's making the max already. Even at the max, 18/9/2 isn't too bad. I don't see people bashing Kenyon Martin or Pau Gasol too much.

The fact that he missed games this season because somebody ran up underneath him does not make him a dissapointment. I could see if he got hurt because he was out of shape or something. What a r****d!!

Man, all these sportswriters bashing Yao for not living up to his potential are the same ones who once said we'd be lucky if he was even as good as Shawn Bradley.

    Two words: friggin' morons.

Well, those are pretty close to Juwan's career numbers and he has carried the "disappointing" tag around with him pretty much his whole career. Maybe it just goes with being a high pick.

Adjusted for minutes per game, he's only about 2 boards and 2 points per game behind one of the greatest centers of all time (his 3rd year also) ....

Juwan is more like 17 and 7 with only 0.5 blocks and 47% shooting in 36.4 minutes, which is about 5 more minutes per game than Yao is getting. In 36.4 minutes Yao is probably at 20 and 10.

So it's not that close when you look at it that way, plus you have to consider the double teams Yao gets and the impact on defense he has just because of his size and ability to change shots.
