E Pluribus Unum

from many, one....the question is what does that "one" mean...what do we share in common even if we come from very different places? i think that "one" is pretty important if we want to exist as a society...i don't think that means you gotta get rid of the "many" aspects...but there needs to be some serious effort on the part of immigrants to become a part of the "one"

Now, let's not exaggerate... I think she's busted me 2-3 times only. Between Snopes and the dictionary she hardly leaves me elbow room!

You're right, I think it was only a couple of times. This time I didn't actually "bust" you. I only used snopes to answer someone's question about the author of this (legitimate) editorial.

It comes from my former life as an editor. I had to check sources and verify information or else I could get in mighty big trouble. I still do it out of habit. :)

Thank you for responding! I've noticed a tendency on your part to ignore my replies to you which are attempting to overturn your criticisms. Am I imagining this?

I certainly don't go out of my way to ignore you or anyone else on the BBS. There have been times, in particularly argumentative threads, when I just stop posting if I feel like I've been saying the same thing over and over or if I feel the two sides may never see eye to eye on an issue. It has more to do with preserving my sanity than trying to ignore other posters. :)

Stop generalizing, rimmy! "Everyone" equals MJB and heypartner? What a small world...

Over two years that I have been on this board, heypartner his ignored a few post responses that I directed at him specifically.... so imagine my surprise in the AI thread when I didn't specifically address him and he jumped on me with both feet.

I know that some of Mrs.JB issue is the stamina one because I can be a large bit of a bulldog about some issues, but there are other times....

Mrs.JB, I will email my "concerns."

I agree completely with the letter from Tampa. Hiding your face in some burkha (sp?) is a security threat. I don't care how religious you are, you can take the thing off for 10 SECONDS while they take your photo. Unbelievable. It's amazing how stubborn and inflexible people can be if they just chalk it up to "my heritage" or "my beliefs". Hey, I'm not putting my country's safety in jeopardy because one person, or one small group of people, insist on maintaining every single one of their foreign traditions. I'm sorry, I just won't do it. In this age, people absolutely have to make small sacrifices for the purpose of security.

If one person is allowed to do this stuff, then the next thing you know, you've got 25 Muslim extremists trying to exploit the same loophole. no thanks.

It is ok to admit your insecurities, giddy...no one will judge you on this bbs (it hurts just typing that).

I have to generalize in order to keep it on the level of the simple folks. It is a small, provincial world for some...I agree.

I don't think the license is a security threat...just a serious problem in regards to personal identity - for police, checks, bars, etc.

I don't know your name, but I would hazard a guess that your middle name is Sarcasm! :)

My mantra is "simplicity" not simple. Gotta see through those layers of excuses which are being offered up for AI.

She probably is not a terrorist, but a potentially harmful precedent has been set.

Does frustration equal insecurity?

I try to answer all the criticisms aimed my way.

Now I guess anyone (terrorist and law-abiding citizen alike) can claim the right to wear on of those and get their driver's license in the name of religious freedom. Floriday first but coming soon everywhere!

I bet those Founding Fathers of ours are just as pleased as punch with this development! :D

Gosh I bet you could even cloak a man's body inside of one of those things. Falsify a birth certificate-- not that hard to do. Wow, not being able to peek behind the veil suddenly becomes a huge price to pay.

I'm sure this is exactly the kind of thing they had in mind!!!!!!!!!

Mango,

I thought I already stated my opinion...yes, I find it to be a problem and to undermine the whole purpose of photo ID's. When I siad the liscense was not a security threat - I meant that I did not think that this woman was a terrorist - women like this are really supposed to be doing much at all, correct?

Giddy,

Photographs were not developed until 1839, so i don't think the founding fathers knew much about photo ID's.

Hey . .i understand it is easier to carry weapons and things
under a skirt than in pants. Should we force all women to
wear pants in public buildings?
