Jarron Collins named has been mention on here. Now Trevor Aziza. If the Rockets can use the TE with Mike James, splitting the MLE may be enough to get Collins and Ariza. Mike James, Trevor Aziza, and Jaron Collins would make this a very positive offseason for the Rockets.
Much more athletic, better finisher around the rim, better rebounder, better FG%, and 6-8 vs 6-5. Bogans is a more disciplined man defender, Ariza is more of a passing lane thief. Bogans is something of a mess on offense, and Ariza is decent on the fast breaks. So-so in halfcourt sets. At best, Bogans is the third guard you want to see coming off the bench. Ariza has the potential to be a poor man's Andre Iguodala. It's tough to guage if that's realistic or not, considering how Brown trashed him and his confidence last year in his ploy to unseat Isiah. JVG's never been much for player development either. Still, there's nothing but crumbs out there if we don't land Mike James. Bogans/Head would be the worst 2-guard combo in the league if we stick with them. Flip Murray is undersized and one-dimensional, Bonzi Wells could never a week with JVG, and the rest of the Sgs out there are hacks (Jiri Welsh, Buckner, Pargo, Delk). The next best MLE FA might actually be Devean George. Evan
PLus the fact that Bogans and Ariza cannot shoot but Bogans keeps chucking em up while Ariza settles mainly for putbacks
1. He isn't asking for the full MLE. 2. The kid is 21 years old. It's not exactly fair to call him a career backup just yet. But when the Pacers acquired Jermaine O'Neil, he was a career backup. As was Boris Diaw when the Suns acquired him. Ben Wallace was CUT. There are players out there who haven't yet had a chance to show what they can do and could benifit from a new system. Maybe Trevor Ariza is one of them, maybe he isn't, but your comment is short-sighted at best.
As someone already noted he is a restricted FA, meaning Orlando would match any reasonable offer. Which means we would have to give him basically the full MLE for any number of years to discourage Orlando from matching.
You cant pass on him cuz he is a former Knick. I saw a lot of him during his rookie year since he was a former UCLA Bruin and this kid can play. He is a poor man's Josh Howard at the moment. He can get to the basket and rebound very well but his jumper makes defenses play off of him. Once he improves the J, he will be a very nice addition to a Rockets second squad without Yao on the floor. Imagine TMAC and Ariza playing alongside each other. But improving your J is not an overnight thing!!! If we can get him at a decent price, ill take it.
You noticed his agent said the Rockets were interested, I'm sure by now if theres one way to get Orlando fans in an uproar its to mention the Rockets want one of your guys. I actually would really like to see Ariza in a rockets uni, he got good potential and could really do some damage while just hustling and using his athletism and he's another guy who could really take some of the defensive burden off of T-Mac.
Nice comparison of Bogans and Ariza. Ariza can't shoot and who would trust his agent saying his client has a much improved jump shot. I like Ariza's size and athleticism but his shooting may be a liability.
I am not sure what's the source you based your conclusion on. If it is pure speculation, then there is no point of arguing. But from their stats, their RB number is almost identical. Bogans has much better 3pt percentage than Ariza. I don't see Ariza has much more steal than Bogans either.
Regarding restricted free agents such as ariza and banks. If they sign an offer sheet, and the other team matches, can you increase your bid? I'm fairly sure that's it, just want verification, so a S&T w/ TE is probably the better way to go when dealing with RFA's.
We can't possibly sign scrub Ariza. Poor shooter. Period. Not what we need at all. If logic enters into it at all he can't be on our radar screen.
We need some athleticism though and Ariza has that in bucketloads. Plus he is long and rangey, could potentially be a locakdown defender at multiple positions.
I don't think you can "up" your bid if you give an offer..the other team can match it.. Anyways, I want Ariza. He's athletic. I didn't know he was that tall..6-8. He needs to be able to play the 2 though because we have enough guys at the 3. Marcus Banks would not be bad as a backup to Alston now..unless Sura returns.
I am a big fan of Ariza. He is a lockdown defender who is only going get better. He is only 21 and would add depth. Exactly the type of player the Rockets need. Give him part of the MLE and hope the Magic don't match or part of the TE in a sign and trade for a future 2nd.
Ariza may have potential and size, but he has no chance of being a Rocket. He is much too young with way too much future potential for JVG. My goodness, Ariza might make a mistake on court that leads to an opponent's score. No one on the Rockets ever does that soooooo.....forget him.
*****SSSSTTTRRREEETTCCCHHHH *************** ****YYYYYAAAAWWWNNNNN****** Rocket River . . who is this again?
Banks is the first step in recovering from the James-debacle. Can't say I would be in love with an Ariza signing at this stage.
yes the rockets more than likely will pass up on a deal like this, because cd is acting like a b**** right now!!!!
