Of course he is doing what he thinks is best. I don't expect him to do the worst thing he can do. He obviously thinks he can get a better deal by backing out of the Houston deal at the 11th hour and re-opening bidding, through the media. He is using Houston. The question is whether it is ethical or wise to do it this way. And the question isn't, "why would he tell the media anything?" It is "why HAS he told the media anything?" He has told the media way too much. At this point, I am not so concerned about the deal going down for Houston so much as having this whole thingn over. I think the Rockets should stick it out till the end, but if they don't get Tmac I won't be upset because in the end I will know it wasn't for lack of trying.

This guy reminds me so much of Jerry Krause. He better hope his draft picks all pan out, because he won't be getting many other chances at trades or free agent deals involving major players again.

That's the thing that really irritates me as well.

Why is no one saying that Weisbrod royally screwed McGrady. McGrady didn't have to tell the Magic he was going to opt out. They demanded to know and he cooperated.

Exactly! McGrady could have coasted this upcoming season and then left the franchise for nothing after the season. McGrady did the franchise a solid by saying he wanted out and that they could get something for him if they acted now. And here the franchise is with a decent offer and they are screwing McGrady around as well as Houston (and every other team and player that this effects as dominos).

Then I go back to my original question, if he's supposedly doing what's best why lie? Because he's either lying to the media or to his star players. He's telling Grant Hill it will be official in a few days, and told Steve Francis how tough he was and how he likes him and mentioned how he like him as a player and praises him. Then he comes and tells the media that he isn't close to a deal with the Rockets and are looking at other teams' deals and Pat Williams has said the same thing. So if you're looking at other deals why would you lie to your star player (Grant Hill). Or if it is close to being official why would you lie to the media? It's easy to say he is doing what's best it's sour grapes, but the future of the Rockets team for next year hangs on this guy getting his head out of his ass and actually making a decision instead of dragging it through July.
