There is a story from last season when the Magic were playing Cleveland and Tracy took a hard foul that knocked him to the ground. During a timeout, Magic coach Johnny Davis told his players he wanted retaliation; he wanted to see LeBron James knocked on his backside.

    It never happened.

When told the story, Weisbrod responded, "That tells you what Tracy's teammates thought of him."

Or maybe they didn't do it because they thought Johnny Davis was a moron? lol, exactly who was going to give a hard foul on LeBron? Was Tyronne Lue going to do the "Van Gundy" and grab his ankles or was Grant Hill going to throw his ankle brace at him?

This just shows Weisbrod's freaking hockey mentality. This guy needs to go back to the IHL & if he thinks Johnny Davis is the answer he's a bigger moron than I thought.

I'm sure Tracy rubbed some guys the wrong way & he admitted it, but most importantly I think he learned from it.

What's even worse is that this guy compares the group of players Orlando has to Detroit. So I guess the 3 consecutive titles the Lakers won were examples of how not to win. Oh, and yes lets do the comparison:

Johnny Davis & Larry Brown- Who's Johnny Davis again? Figures.

Steve Francis & Chauncey Billups- Francis more explosive/ Chauncey smarter

Cuttino Mobley & Rip Hamilton- I'd take Leatherface any day of the week.

Grant Hill & Tayshaun Prince- How many games has Hill played in the last 3 seasons? Exactly.

Rasheed Wallace & Dwight Howard- Perhaps after the Rockets win their 3rd consecutive title.

Ben Wallace & Kelvin Cato- I'm at a lost for words

Did you guys notice that this reporter bashed T-Mac and based it on the fact that the Magic "only got Steve, Cat and Cato" for him? Then he turns around and say the team will be much better for it, that Cat will provide the 3-point shooting the Magic never had last season???? What T-Mac can't shoot the 3??

Is it that the GM's around the league didn't think T-Mac was worth it or was T-Mac's ultimatium of not signing anywhere else the deal breaker for all other teams?

Didn't the Magic GM tell Steve that they could have gotten anyone in the league for T-Mac but choose to built around Steve?

This is quite refreshing and I'm sure some in Orlando will actually by this BS but seriously, I doubt it.

So he spends the first half of the article talking about how great a deal the Magic got and then says this:
    Huh?

It is so funny thacabbage. Now the spin cycle, after contradicting themselves, saying that it's telling about McGrady's reputation that nobody wanted to dela with him. Yet Orlando's GM said HIMSELF that there was at least 7 teams that wanted McGrady, and Indiana and Phoenix were willing to break the bank for him, as was Miami. Heck, Miami is in their own backyard! You talk about lying to cover your ass!

this still just cracks me up

"We didn't ask him to come to town," Weisbrod said. "But if he wants to, we're certainly happy to sit down and talk to him."

You're right Verbatim! My god the Orlando management and media are stumbling over each other, contradicting each other with lies and exaggerations just to cover their @ss. God this is so funny! If Orlando had just did the deal straight up I wouldn't minded at all. But to see the way Orlando management went about this, lied, and then have their media attack our media, organization (by claiming that Francis needs to be on a team first team to be successful, nevermind the fact that he is going from a playoff team to the #1 team in the lottery) and attacking the city of Houston. Just a 3-ring circus down there. Man what I wouldn't give to listen to their talk shows!

I felt bad that Francis and Cat were having to go to the worst team in the NBA... then I started thinking they give Orlando enough depth to win quite a few more games so they might actually be pretty happy since they have a good chance of making the playoffs. Now I'm feeling bad again since they are walking into a situation run by complete incompetance.

Its a good trade when both teams feel like they got the better end of the deal. And, it IS true, that both teams will improve.

I think Francis and Mobely really will flourish in the East. McGrady didn't fit in Orlando. Francis didn't fit in Houston, even though I loved having him here.

Now, all this negative talk is an attempt to convince themselves they got the better end of the deal, sortof like a girlfriend, saying that she's better off anyway, after a guy dumps her ...

But, we both got better fitting parts. Orlando will be going to the playoffs now for a long time. I believe, though, that Houston will be going to the championships for years to come, and that's even better.

i agree completely. francis and mobley are great guys and play the game hard. francis knew what he had going here in houston was good. now its looking more and more like he was right with his reasons for not wanting to go to the magic and the train wreck that weisbrod seems to be setting up there.

There's really no need to slam Houston.

    Everything else is just spin.

I think it's funny that whenever a trade goes down or a free agent leaves town, all of these self-righteous writers feel the need to go on some slander laced crusade. What's the point? Who are we ultimately trying to impress? This is a sport after all, these aren't saints we're dealing with.

I'm an educated sports fan and I'm smart enough to realize these guys aren't my role models. Don't try to spin it off to me like they are and that my team is better off because the guy I just traded had his warts. The sad thing is that most of us are gullible enough to read these pathetic peices and eat them up.

Me? I can handle the truth. Does T-Mac have an ego? You can bet your ass he does. Did he quit on his team last season? Hell yes. Did he openly humiliate his teammates in the press? No doubt. Is it a concern whether he'll be willing to buy into Van Gundy's system? It just might become the theme of next season. Does all of this stop me from realizing that the Rockets just traded for maybe the single most talented player in basketball? Not at all. I know the guy is not a saint so don't try to trash him out of Orlando like he's some bad guy and is undesireable. Same goes for Francis.

    So true.

Sportswriters need to learn that while athletic events can be a metaphor for life, they usually are not. And that attempting to falsely glorify sports trivializes life and makes sport appear ridiculous.

    We need more cabbage posts.

    Here's my take:

    1. If he was supposedly missing so many practices, why didn't they just suspend him? Nothing like that happened. Fines are not enough- if you're serious about sending a message, that's what you do. I don't let him off easy for doing this, but it doesn't sound like management was all that much in control.

    2. Horace Grant? The same person who criticized both Michael Jordan and Shaq (former teammates)? Yeah, Horace, now there's a gravy-trainer if I ever saw one.

    3. Houston IS beautiful. Orlando is- well, let's just put it this way- when you type in Orlando in a search engine, the first thing that pops up is Tony Orlando. Need I say more?

You can lump this writer in with "Hanging Chad" Ford and the rest of the haters. Excellent fuel for the fire!
