Why did they shut down the whole highway for a day? Because an alleged terrorist drove on it? Were they planning to blow up 200 miles of roadway? I can understand when they shut down airports and stuff, but seriously. Did they shut down all motels because Hijackers stayed in them? or all rental car lots? American authorities really have no clue with how to deal with terrorism at all. Frequently we make stupid changes like that that succeed in nothing but inconvenience while lulling into a false sense of security, while real weaknesses remain exploitable.

I assumed they shut it down because there was potential for evidence in that area that they didn't want tainted. Maybe not, just an assumption.

Yeah that's possible JV but it just seems like cutting off your nose to spite your face IMO. My point is that American Authorities always respond in a very predictable way that doesn't help anybody.

If they're worried about terrorists driving on that road they should have set up roadblocks and stuff. Sure, it causes traffic hassles and they are not impregnable, but seriously, if there were other people out there (which there were not, as this was seemingly a hoax) then the best way to catch them is not to send them into hiding. It just strikes me as a disproportionate response that wastes time and resources and exposes glaring weaknesses that can be exploited.

    What are you talking about?

JuanValdez was right, they ultimately shut down the road as they searched the vehicles for evidence. They intially closed it because the dogs suspected explosives.

Haven't you heard of all of the cases that were damaged because of mishandled evidence?

Where would you have had them set-up roadblocks, on all North-South routes in Florida?

I don't get what you problem is with their handling of this.

They shut down the highway because they had two cars sitting there potentially full of who-knows-how-much explosive material that could blow up at any time.

It took hours and hours to carefully open the cars with robots and such. You really think it would have been a good idea for cars to driving by, so that if something did go wrong, they could all be incinerated?

These idiots need to be arrested and forced to serve time. If they're so stupid that they don't think a big deal would be made of this then screw them. We don't need this. I could care less if this is a joke, they want to joke, make it serious.

No, my information was based on earlier reports that they shut the entire stretch of highway in the entire state down well after the cars had been towed away and the "bombs" had been proven not to be there. I just looked at it again and it was 20 miles only, not 200, I was wrong.

My main point remains unchanged. US officials respond to terrorism in ineffective, unhelpful, potentially dangerous ways that are waiting to be exploited someday. Think about it next time you are being dropped off 9,000 feet away from the airport terminal in the aftermath of all those successful carbomb airport attacks.

There is at least one report out that the hospital they were going to be at in Miami has suggested they go elsewhere because they are no longer welcome.

..because they are receiving threatening e-mails. If they did nothing wrong (and they seemed rather genuine, but what would I know about them), maybe the hospital should just be a vocal supporter so people learn the truth.

According to CNN, one of the 3 a-holes is on a student visa...is it possible to revoke that? If so, I say take it away and ship his ass back to where ever he came from...if he wants to tell jokes, he can be a stand up comedian at the mountain club in afghanastan...

BTW, did you see the brief interview CNN had with one of the 3 idiots? He was so smug about the whole thing...like we should be apologizing to him

I saw a CNN interview with one of the guys. The reason he was, as you perceived smug but I perceived as upset was because he said the woman fabricated the entire story and that they weren't speaking of 9/11, 9/13, or any terrorist plot. He felt he was the victim of profiling + racism. If someone made up a story about me and got me into that kind of trouble, I wouldn't be the least bit apologetic on television.

Of course we don't know yet who's 100% telling the truth. Even the cops who were involved the incident said they still don't know what happened inside that restaurant in GA.

Beautiful...the hospital took the internship away from these guys...I'm asuming they wouldnt take this sort of action if it they were unsure as to whether or not the guys did anything

I saw this too, and I have to tell you, I'm pretty skeptical. I have a hard time believing this woman made up the entire story on the fly like that...calling the police and everything. I don't put anything past humans...but it seems to me it's far more likely these guys were joking around because they felt they were being looked upon unfavorably.

    That's a start.

Just for my info, were they "joking" or did they "not say it at all?" Which is it?

The one in the middle was the one who was all smug on tv..not to sound racist but if I sat next to those 3 in a diner, I'd probably look at them suspiciously as well
