Florida highway closed...3 possible terrorists arrested

The woman from Georgia said that they were laughing, and they said:

'If they mourn 9-11, what will they think about 9-13?'

and...

Idiot #1: 'Do you think that'll bring it down?'
Idiot #2: 'If that don't bring it down, I have contacts and will get enough to bring it down'

 

I just hope that the investigating groups (CIA, FBI, etc) don't screw this up, follow all leads and share information.

 

some more info....

- first car has been searched. nothing found. they've started on car #2

- they were apparently med students supposedly headed to a medical conference

- the backpack that was blown up had some wires sticking out, so the thing was blown up with a water cannon. it turned out that the backpack had some medical equipment

the three guys are being totally non-cooperative at this point. they think the search of car #2 will be done in 1-2 hours.

 

Given the reported conversations they have from these guys, i'm not sure they're the operatives we should be looking for...it seems their conversations focus on others who have the materials to "bring it down."

 

Supposedly, they had some, but maybe not enough.

 

Family in Illinois does not know how their plates ended up on car in Florida. Authorities say family has no terrorist ties.

These people aren't terrorists. They are Goofballs.

wait...let's not group a whole race/nation of people in together with these 3 jackasses...

having said that...this is not a funny prank...this is on par with joking around at an airport...if you make terroristic threats, even without intending to back them up, that's a criminal offense.

these guys should be smarter than this...med students?? geez, fellas...buy a clue.

 

Deport to where? All three are US citizens.

They were legal immigrants..so take away their green card or whatever the hell it is that is keeping them in the country....

What's keeping one of them in the country is that he was born a US citizen. What's keeping the other two in the country is that they became US citizens - they are not immigrants, don't have greencards, etc.

 

I think you miss the point of the joke. The joke was a horrible decision, but the reason why they pulled the joke, was because people were looking suspiciously at them based only on the fact that they were middle eastern. They then foolishly started playing the joke to give people what they were so desperately looking for.

There is no excuse for the kind of joke these guys played, but remember the order of what took place. First people were suspicious of these guys, based on no other fact accept their heritage. These guys responded by playing this horrible joke. If people hadn't been so bigoted to begin with there never would have been the joke.

I know peoples bigotry doesn't excuse that kind of joke, but at the same time there is no excuse for peoples bigotry.

 

the overlooked good news is that nothing really significant is happening (as far as we know!) in florida today as it pertains to terrorism...

the overlooked bad news is the chilling effect this might have on other people to report on suspicious behavior who don't want to look like idiots or stir up a problem when it is questionable.

 

hold the phone, franchise...how do you know they were getting suspicious looks...they claim to have gotten some suspicious looks...we don't know if those other people actually did that...we don't know if these guys were overly sensitive and misinterpreted something...you're reading in bigotry when it may not have existed...
