    exactly.

The refs should review the games on tape and find out who's doing it too much and make a memo to other refs who's going to officiate the next games and punish the players by ignoring fouls commited against him or vice versa - calling 3 fouls agains the player in teh first quarter.

Not talking about defense, I am ok with emphasizing the flop to draw a charge, well..mostly ok....

I am talking primarily about offense, where players just go into people and basically BEG for a call....they are not really even trying to score, they are trying to trick the refs into making a call.

That is not basketball, that if FIFA.

It's a smart play until they change the rules.

    Is it?

Because there are some referees that will call it, and I guess on those nights it is a smart play, but there are others that won't...and what do you do those nights?

    Lose I guess...

Once the refs started calling it everyone started doing it. I wouldn't play like that, but i think that's what we'd all say unless we were in their shoes and realized the other team was doing it and getting calls. It's an advantage for the other team and the game is all about having more advantages than disadvantages. It can be the difference between winning and losing. Unfortunately, if players arent good at it, then it'll be more hurtful than helpful. For the most part the guys doing it can sell it, but Scola can't. He does it too frequently and at bad times.

I guess, but I think when you are relying on referees to blow their whistles to win a game, you are just not going to be winning very many.

Then they shouldn't rely on the refs.

But they do, that is what this team does....it tries desperately to get the refs to blow their whistles on offense and defense.

I think they have gone too far in that direction......trying to draw contact is fine, but at least try to do it will making a genuine move to make a basket..

Just drawing contact and hoping for a whistle while the ball bounces hard off the backboard is the same thing as a turnover it is a wasted possession.

And we have too many of those.....it is like in Utah...they foul all the time but eventually the refs just stop calling a lot of them...because they can't call all of them.

Same thing with the flops....eventually they just don't call them......it happens all the time and our guys keep trying to draw them and flail around like fish in a boat.

    Disgusting.

I think a good way to get rid of flopping is calling a technical foul on egregious flopping, like in the Horry video.

    100% agree....

And they should review them at the league office......and fine players after the fact for egregious ones.

:( I do think flopping is cowards basketball.. But I do think that Kevin Martin does it to perfection, so I'll take it I guess. But it was obvious last night that when Lowry isn't getting his flopping calls he gets frustrated and does bad. Flopping shouldn't be allowed, but it is.

What is the difference, in context? In a thread where someone asked if we're a flopping team, you said the Rockets should join in on the flopping if the refs don't call it. You said Brooks should learn how to flop. That doesn't seem consistent with someone who believes flopping is a disgrace to the game. If that was sarcasm, I missed it.

Honestly, I think this is more about you being angry with Lowry and his supporters on this board then disgust over flopping.

and who will decide which flops to review? what if they call a foul first? There's no way to go bout doing that without creating problems during a game.

It worked for the 06-08 Jazz. It worked for the 03-08 Spurs. It worked for the '06 Heat.

Agreed. The best way to deal with flopping is to cut down on calls all around.

The difference is in the context of the discussion, we are talking about whether you like it or not.....

I do not like it, never have, never will, making a concession that a team has to do it some, is not the same as being in favor of it.

Well, you would be wrong, it is about the entire team, and I think that Kevin Martin has more to do with it than anyone else....the players see all the foul shots he draws and they are smart so they are probably trying to join his party.

The problem is, that when everyone does it, the refs just stop calling it....and as disgraceful as it is......you have to admit that Kevin Martin is really good at it.

But, IMO, he does it far too often....far far too often.

Playing to the refs is a failed strategy, recognizing that they are there is totally different than trying to play them.

Because there is no consistency between teams of referees.....

If you go to another arena to watch a rockets game, you can hear a lot of boos when rockets players flop. Very embarrassing!
