Those independents are Tea Party voters that were former Republicans.

    He cam reasonably close.

Would have been interesting if the Republican candidate wasn't a puppet. It is really too bad.

I'm not sure it would have worked out better. If the candidate was more Republican, they'd have alienated the middle even more. If they candidate was truly more centrist, they wouldn't have made it out of the primaries.

    Indeed.

Just would have been nice to see a departure from the establishment.

Yeah, it was not handily! Don't give them libs more ammo, though. You are mixing up Romney with McCain. It was Romney that lost by 2.7%, not McCain.

A.k.a. Republicans who got too ashamed to call themselves Republicans after George W. Bush screwed up the brand.

The whole Tea Party thing might have originated as some sort of Ron Paul quasi-libertarian group, but it is no doubt pretty much the Republican base by now.

The tenor of this thread is absolutely correct: If only the Repubs could have fielded a better candidate they would have won. These thoughts need to take hold across the party. There is nothing fundamentally wrong with Conservatism as practiced by Repubs. All they need is a better salesman, a guy you would want to have a beer with if you will, to smooth over the hard edges of Con positions during the election and then govern like a hard-ass as soon as the bible is taken away.

Wrong. They need to have better policies too.

It's not just the messenger. It's the message. And the electorate has done a pretty good job of discerning and rejecting this one. Good luck convincing other groups along with southern whites to vote against their own economic interest.

How many times did Romney try to become the Republican Candidate? It feels like a bunch of times.

He finally got his chance and blew it miserably with lies, a horrible perception of women, alienating minorities and the middle class and flat out LYING on a day-to-day basis.

At least McCain stood by what he said, and for the most part, didn't lie.

Romney is a good businessman, but as a person, I wouldn't give him the time of day to listen to his philosophy. His mind, along with many of his voters, has been poisoned by fallacies. Yuck.

McCain came out against the immigration bill that he co-sponsored, has since flip -flopped on Cap & Trade (which he now calls "Cap & Tax" - tee hee!, and was one of the hardcore holdouts for the DADT repeal reneging on earlier promises. All to hold on to his senate seat.
