I agree with your second point, but you can't expect Schaub to be our back-up QB next season.

The guy had his chance several years now, it's time to move on with a new coach and QB. Heck, I wouldn't mind keeping Kenum and draft another QB in the 6th or 7th round. We'll probably trade down in the second or third round to pick up more draft picks anyway, IMO.

Against my better judgement, I'll bite with an actual response.

It's not a matter of whether or not we either get Schaub or we don't. It doesn't work that way. The NFL has a salary cap. And whether Schaub plays affects that cap.

The cap basically works like this.

Cut Schaub - $10mil (can be spread over two years)
Keep Schaub 1 year - $21.5mil (salary + dead money by cutting him after next season)
Keep Schaub 2 years - $35mil (salary _ dead money by cutting him after 2 years)
    Keep Schaub 3 years - $50mil

    Schaub is NOT worth $11mil/yr.

This team has a crapload of holes. I wish Schaub was someone good enough that we could keep him and address the other holes with the draft/FA.

The thing is he's pretty much shot his chance at this team, he's gone. Anyone wanting to keep him needs to go to the looney bin. Thanks for being a consummate pro Matty, but you just aren't the starting QB this rebuilding team needs.

You can't keep Schaub unless you're committing to him as the starter for the balance of his contract. They can get out of it this season for a reasonable price. If they don't cut him, it's only because they intend to have him as the starter...which would be an incredible mistake.

Even Hey Now! has quit defending Schaub. The OP makes me sick!

You have GOT to be kidding me.. it's thinking like yours why the Texans organization is so pathetic.. "Kubiak is a good coach", "Schaub was a pro-bowler" SMH!

    1. Schaub sucks
    2. Schaub will be in a different system than his 'glory days'
    3. Schaub sucks and is NOT THE ANSWER
    4. Bridgewater, Manzeil, etc will probably be better
    5. Schaub is limited meaning he sucks

I defended Matt up until the pick six record run. He's absolutely afflicted with Brad Lidge syndrome. I'm not high on Bridgewater either. I'd rather see Clowney wreck shop next to Watt. At least then the pass rush might make the DBs look a little better. We'll probably be average to bad for another year but then maybe we get a shot at a consensus franchise QB.

I honestly feel bad for Matt. He had it going for a while and was still bashed. When he really started playing poorly the haters piled on like rabid dogs.

Yep. That statement nullified the rest of the argument (which, was still pretty bad) and automatically made this thread 1-star.

There is no logical reason Matt should be back next season. He has lost the fans and more importantly the players on the team. Did you hear AJs comments after they named Case the starter? Guy was just so happy to have someone other than Schaub throwing the ball. And if the OP can answer a question for me, would you have any excitement at all to watch the Texans next year if Schaub was our starter? A fresh face alone would at least have me interested in what they are going to look like. I would just be angry to see Schaub again.

I have no problem with someone arguing to keep Schaub. But there still hasn't been any convincing points made that he can improve or even survive in another system, especially at the cost.
