It's an apt comparison... I don't think he's done much to improve California's standing. His biggest accomplishment was his covid policy of helicoptering money down on Californians though billions of unaccounted for money through fraud is not a great look for a state running up larger outstanding debt. He'll be judged by his main current platforms: homelessness, rent relief, criminal justice reform while balancing public safety (vagrants, smash n grabs, organized robbers on transit systems) . I dont think he's doing great on all three, but I'll give him time as many of these issues were present before he wws even lt. gov. The biggest issue is that California's budget is structured around high income and corporate tax receipts. Supporting middle and lower class works to some extent but the inequality from Californias thinning industries from aerospace, entertainment, tech, agriculture towards tech and finance is placing a burden in middle lower income couples wanting to raise families. It's not a sustainable balance and one thats only ignored if you're okay with groups falling deeper into the cracks (very progressive and forward thinking?!) His past is also checkered with drug abuse allegations and adultery during his first wife.
Most Californians know that the heavy lifting was done by his predecessor, Gov Moon Beam, aka Jerry Brown, who was able to turn an embarrasingly HUGE deficit (inherited from Arno Swartzeneger) into a surplus. which states' budgets are not structured this way? this has been the case even before Jerry Brown's first term as Gov, some ~~40+ years ago. this is a nothing burger relative to him hosting a dinner party at the French Laundry Restaurant during Covid lockdown
Newsom hits the road to campaign for Biden in Idaho, building his own base in red states At a private fundraiser in the middle of Donald Trump’s America, California Gov. Gavin Newsom was on a mission to help President Biden. At a time when states like Idaho, where registered Republicans outnumber Democrats by more than 4 to 1, are enacting laws to restrict abortion, gay rights and advance other culturally divisive pillars of the GOP agenda, Newsom said only one man could be trusted to turn the tide: Biden. But his stumping for Biden tees Newsom up nicely for other job prospects, said Rob Stutzman, a Republican consultant in California. His public feuding with Republicans fills a “void” in his party and sends a message that he’s a Democrat willing and unafraid to take on the MAGA wing of the GOP — a crusade that helps elevate Newsom’s national profile and build a database of supporters along the way. The swing through Republican-led states gives Newsom the chance to remind local Democrats how critical they are in fighting back against what he described as a GOP-led “rights regression.” “You think Trump, if he gets back into office, is not going to demand a third term? Give me a break,” Newsom said. “You think Jan. 6 is the last we are going to see.... Give me a break.” Newsom’s foray deeper into the national political arena has evolved since last year, when he ripped his party for not being aggressive enough in the face of Republican victories on the local, state and national level, including at the U.S. Supreme Court. Mike Madrid, a Republican political consultant and co-founder of the anti-Trump group The Lincoln Project, said Newsom’s brand appeals to Democrats throughout the country, including in swing states, who are looking for a leader “unashamed and unapologetic” about running defense against Republicans. https://www.latimes.com/california/...iden-in-idaho-and-builds-his-national-profile
Good play for 2028. If Trump is the 2024 nominee and loses the GOP could be in shambles for a few elections.
upon further review, Diet Trump appears to shrivel under the pressure of debating Newsom Newsom spokesman Nathan Click said. “Desantis’ counterproposal is littered with crutches to hide his insecurity and ineptitude — swapping opening statements with a hype video, cutting down the time he needs to be on stage, adding cheat notes and a cheering section,” “Ron should be able to stand on his own two feet. It’s no wonder Trump is kicking his ass.”
Looks like Newsome is worrying some of the maga types enough to make up fake news stories about fox news... Diet Trump is so easily distracted. isn't his task at hand to win the GOP nomination? perhaps he has given up, seeing others (Vivek/Haley) are gaining at his expense.
A recent CNN-University of New Hampshire poll placed Vivek as Trump's closest second. Former South Carolina Gov. Haley, meanwhile, secured a near-identical 12 %, while Christie - an outspoken critic of the former head of state - garnered 10 %. All stood higher than DeSantis, who sat at 10 %.
Nah - that hair is about the best thing he has going for him. Making him look vigorous and capable of impregnating younger women. Also he can’t pull off a beard.
Hair spray vs. hair gel after years of sniping, a debate between the two coastal Governors will take place in Georgia, 30 Nov, and air on Hannity’s show. for Diet Trump, the debate provides an opportunity to boost his floundering effort to overtake for Gov good hair, wading onto the debate stage against DeSantis on conservative Fox News adds to his effort to bolster his national image as a warrior for Democratic values, unafraid of going to battle against the right for the future of America. DeSantis’ decision to debate another governor could make him look less like a serious contender in the presidential race, said Mike Madrid, a former political director for the California GOP and one of the party’s most vocal critics of Trump. “It’s pure desperation,” Madrid said. “He’s admitting that his campaign is in deep, deep trouble.” Stooping to a debate with Newsom does give DeSantis an opportunity to pump life into his national profile and burnish his image as an anti-”woke” GOP warrior — but it’s a high-risk move, Madrid said. “But if you don’t throw a knockout punch, then you basically lose the match,” Madrid said. “Because otherwise not only have you elevated somebody else, but you brought yourself down a few notches, and he doesn’t have any notches to go down.”
Diet trump's performance at the 2nd GOP presidential debate provides lots of preparation materials for Gov good hair to study, https://www.tampabay.com/news/flori...akeaways-live-trump-haley-ramaswamy-christie/ Diet Trump doubled down on his six-week abortion ban, touting that he still won an election in a landslide. Insurance fisco in Florida when asked to defend why so many Floridian are uninsured, he meekly blamed "Bidenomics" Florida's crisis started years before DeSantis became Gove, which is 5 year before Biden become POTUS. after 6 years as Florida's Gov, he has not made any improvement Florida's education controversy, black history curriculum, w history books saying “slaves developed skills which, in some instances, could be applied for their personal benefit.” he blamed VP Kamals was spreading that mis-characterizatin Scott, the only Black on stage, pounced on Diet Trump's lie, saying that DeSantis should’ve just “taken the one sentence [slavery was beneficial to Blacks] out.” Diet Trump's flip-flopping on fracking / drilling was called up by Nikki Haley Anti-semitism conveniently disguised as a pledge to take on prosecutors spinning the meaningless rhetoric of "Soros-funded" prosecutions
