RR -- the time between innings is regulated. it's not different from inning to inning. networks have x amount of time to sell between each inning to advertisers...no more.
True, but the only reason for that is because of TV. Halftime is only SUPPOSED to take 15 minutes, but it take 25-30 minutes in acuality to allow for a couple of extra commercials. The same goes with the end of the quarter. I'm pretty sure that NBA games took less time back before they were on TV on a regular basis. Let's face it, though, we've all been anesthetized to commercial bombardment that I doubt a few extra commercials really bothers anybody any more. The only sport that I can think of that specifically stops play for television, though, is the NFL. They even call it a "TV timeout".
Yep. I already mentioned that. Yep. Exactly! And it's a lot worse when you see a game on national TV like TNT or ESPN!!!
Yes, that is exactly what I meant. Like I said a pitcher's sequence is pretty vital to the game of baseball! It's a lot of action. I'm the type of person who likes to watch comedy shows, but I don't want any of the jokes to be so blatant. That takes out the fun in everything. I need to be able to think about it and say wow, that was AMAZING! And then laugh out loud of course.
The actual in game action isn't really extended that much by TV, it's the halftimes and quarter stoppages. There's not really anything you can do about that. Whoever is showing the game has to make money. As for the timeouts, that's just part of the strategy. I can't tell you how many times I've seen a team call a timeout after another team's run, then the team that called the timeout go on a run of their own. Also, if a coach calls a play off a timeout and that play doesn't work and results in a turnover, you can damn well be sure that he'll be pissed and call another timeout. Same thing goes with calling a timeout to "freeze" somebody at the FT line. It works! Teams intentionally use their delay of game on inbounds passes to see what the inbounding team is going to run. Most teams usually only have one or two inbounds movement schemes, so the other team can sometimes force a bad pass or a five second violation. Fouling intentionally at the end of games has resulted in countless comebacks in the last couple of minutes. The rules have recently been amended to prevent teams from fouling off the ball (Hack a Shaq) in the last two minutes of games by giving the fouled team a FT and possession. No offense, but if that kind of stuff really bothers you, then you really should watch something else, or get a bottle of Ritalin...
It doesnt bother me! Im just saying, how can you say those things about baseball, when in fact basketball is the real "stupid, boring sport" It's kind of contradicting, isn't it? You dont have patience for the game of baseball, but you can sit through an entire NBA outing? The difference is only half an hour or so... Instead of saying its boring or too long, just say baseball isn't my type of sport and end it on that note.
No it is not. Football and basketball has way more action on every single play. I think most of baseball excitement is based of anticipation, not action.
I never said that I don't have patience for baseball. I never said it was too boring or too long, I just said it was slower paced, which is part of it's charm.
Agreed...I love baseball, well, not the Astros right now, but you know what I mean...I love the atmosphere of a game... Basketball is cool and football is better, but that's because we grew up watching it...
I know, but I just inferred it because you were trying to speed up the game! But this whole discussion has nothing to do with changing the rules to make it more friendly but to do away with those trying to manipulate the game by taking steroids. Whatever the case may be, nothing will change.
