I want everyone complaining about Derek Fisher playing basketball, to go quit you job so you can spend more time with your families. Seems like it takes a lot of money to give your child the best care in the world. He actually walked away from more money, so he could live somewhere where his daughter could get the treatment she needs, but still somewhere where he could make the money to help her. Lay off this man. Let him provide for his family.
he still needs a job. he moved to a city where he can spend a good amount of time with his daughter in a place where she can receive care. he moved from a better team and a better contract to the lakers. don't see the problem.
Conspiracists who believe Fisher is masquerading his daughter's cancer to improve his career and make money need to shut the f_ck up. News Flash: Not everything is about money. Especially when you've made millions already. Dumbasses.
The Jazz are getting all kinds of accolades for being about life over basketball. Do you think they'd do the same for Deron Williams' contract? Fisher was significantly overpaid. He was playing the two-guard and is small for the position. The Jazz just added another young two-guard. Even if they did the right thing from a human perspective, getting out of his contract was a win for the Jazz organization. I'm wishing the best for his daughter and hopefully this was the best for the Fisher family.
Many are acting as if Fisher wasn't a valuable commodity to the Jazz. He and Williams in the backcourt was the best backcourt tandem they had. Was he overpaid? Sure, but they knew that when they acquired him. It was no secret. They got him for his leadership, poise, shooting and ability to run a team. I guarantee there are a lot more people in Utah sad to see him leave than those who are quietly happy that he was let go. LA made the most sense, and the Lakers are lucky he fell into their hands. Now they have the quality PG they've needed. I think if they end up pulling off the Jermaine O'neal for Bynum/Odom trade, they'll be an improved club. With key pieces like Luke Walton, Kwame Brown (not a great player, but a decent role big), and maybe another budget piece or two, they can easily challenge for the sixth spot.
If it was really about the money, why would he leave $20 million to get $13 million? Makes no sense. I'm siding with Fisher. He has to do something to get his mind of the problem. Can't just sit at home, after all, he is a great competitor and can still contribute.
