The odds of Reed cracking a starting line up with Green and Amen seems almost slim to none at this point. Like something drastically different trajectory wise would need to happen.

But ya the hope was even then Reed could beat solid back up PG next season but if they do extend Fred that looks like that might not happen either.

I was so annoyed with Fred last night. He'd done such a good job this month not doing that ****. I hate losing these close games though.

Hmm. I'd want him back, but yeah either at a reduced rate or playing backup minutes. Certainly not at his current $$$ / year.

Maybe depending on circumstances and personnel growth.

I think it's possible they want to keep him long term, whether as a starter or 6th man type, but I also think it's possible that a team like Sacramento wants to see him extended on more team friendly terms before they'd want him in a DeAaron Fox swap. I suspect they want to continue competing, and FVV knows DeMar well. You could do worse if you have to replace Fox in the lineup.

Not saying that's what this is at all, I could just see it being a possibility. Just seems odd that they'd look to secure this extension just a few weeks before the trade deadline.

So, I've been on record lately about how important I think FVV is to the team. I just don't think we have anybody else who can take care of the ball and playmake like he does. I also think people are STILL underestimating his defensive value somehow? I have a challenge for anyone who doubts FVV: Spend the next Rockets game just focusing on how FVV plays defense when we're on that end. The dude is ridiculously good for a 6'0" point guard. During the Boston win, I watched Fred force Kristaps Porzingis, with nearly a foot and a half of height and fifty pounds on him, to pass out of the post multiple times 1-on-1. But more than that, pay attention to FVV's communication on both ends. He is truly a coach on the floor out there for this group of young kids.

Here's the thing about Fred though--when he tries to do too much on offense, it usually doesn't work out so well, as we saw last night. The "hero ball" thing has been an issue for him going back to his Raptors days. But I think we have seen this season that he usually doesn't force things like that unless everything else is going poorly on offense. I think over time, if he stays with the Rockets, he'll feel that he needs to play hero ball less and less, and content himself more with just bringing the ball up the court, getting things started, and shooting open threes. He seems to have enough self-awareness and intelligence that I have some faith in him to do that on a contending team.

So that's my long-winded way of saying, yeah, we should go ahead and extend him, if the price is right. I don't want to pay him anything even close to his current AAV, but three or four years, declining value, starting at around half his current annual cost? Sure, sounds fine.

P.S. I don't think his shooting has actually declined, I think it's just a slump / random variation. Guys don't usually suddenly become worse 3P shooters around this age. If anything, they often get better and better from distance up until their bodies really start to give way.

Well, no way they were going to keep him around for that amount of money if they could bring him down to a number that both sides find palatable for the next few seasons.

I don't see this as a promise he'd be the starter. That he still gets meaningful minutes, yes......If we make a move for another point guard. Not that we'd return to the halcyon days of CP3-Harden for that one season, but we do need another playmaker.

I would love to see him at the Brooks level salary wise.

Im hoping for something like 2/50 or 3/75 with an option on the last year. I also understand its likely to be more in the 2/70 or 3/100 range.

so anywhere within that 25-35m/yr range I would be ok with.

    Honestly not surprised at all.

He likes it here, has a great relationship with the org, and he got insanely paid for 2 years. He helped Ime right this ship and he's a part of a great team with even greater potential. I can easily see him accepting a lesser role and a smaller but longer deal to stay here.

They would sign him to win. They would only acquire another dynamic vet star guard if they needed a Green replacement and want to keep Amen against less agile players.

It is a great sign for the young players that they want a PG that can play on and off ball and orchestrate the defense in the short term.

Im his agents are responsible for putting this out there since I don’t think he’ll have many teams begging to give him more than a two year deal at half of what he makes now.

the drop off from last year to this year has been obvious
