He’s not a raw numbers guy. He’s a coach on the floor. We all saw how bad the team was when he was injured (or even when he subbed out in the playoffs). He’s like a Draymond. He doesn’t make sense as a star just using the eye test and looking at box scores, but he holds this group of young, immature players together when it counts.

Pay him. It doesn’t really affect our overall picture. You all are acting like you are personally signing the checks.

I'm okay with signing him for MLE type of money and phase him to a bench role.

Focus on developing Amen and Reed for the starting PG role. If Reed pans out, Amen can fit in many other positions. If Reed busts, Amen will hopefully be the guy. FVV is a nice backup and can fill the role of vet presence for a young team. He just shouldn't be used as a 40 mpg kind of player.

I like that Fred doesn't talk money first and then secretly tells his agent to secure him a payday.

One, if the Rockets need him to be the coach on the floor, then he failed in his job as a mentor. His job isn't to make the team reliant on him, it's to allow the other young players to become better so they can flourish after his contract is up. Two, of course the Rockets are much worse without him. He's a max player backed up by a rookie who played SG in college and journeyman who has played for 5 teams in 7 seasons.

When you hire a tutor for your kid and said kid still needs the tutor to finish his homework after 2 years, that's not actually a sign that the tutor is doing a great job.

But he won’t be used that way, that’s the point. As long as he’s on the team he will start and play 40 minutes a night.

This is correct. I’m all for a reasonable extension for FVV if you trade Ime.

If Stone knows what he's doing, he should have a good talk with Udoka before giving Fred an extension. If the coach doesn't give the young guys enough opportunities to show what they may be able to do as PGs, then he's going to trade FVV.

I hate the expression "hand the keys". I want players to kick the guy with the keys in the nuts and take then by force.

As long as the Rockets typically win FVV's minutes, the Rockets win as long as the guys that people want to play over FVV don't f$% up. The problem is that these guys typically f$%^ up when FVV isn't on the court and Ime is forced to put FVV back in like in Game 5.

As much as people think FVV is bad, we don't know how Ime will react when he can put FVV on the bench and the Rockets don't go to sh4t. Sure, the Rockets went about .500 while playing a very weak schedule in February, when they dropped from the 2nd seed to 5th, but FVV even playing bad for FVV after coming back from injury had the Rockets stomping dregs and were back to the 2nd seed shortly.

I’m guessing not much is about to change. They’ll pick up Fred’s last year, try to resign Adams and let Tate, Jeff, Landale, maybe Holiday walk.

Unless Adams jets, which is a coin toss imo the biggest change we’re about to see is picking this draft pick and shuffling 3rd string veterans.

Jabari and Tari probably aren’t asking for their extensions unless they just want a sure thing and take super team friendly deals. RFA is the organization’s friend there.

Amen is gonna get paid, and summer 2026 will be a true evolution one way or another.

Dillon might get traded, depending on how the summer shakes out. Maybe benched?

It’s understandable sideway movement on his shots due to him pressure to improve defense just to be in the line-up for the Ime’s system. I believe it did work on Senguns benefit overall but it might have crippled Jalen’s as scorer. I honestly think it’s better to let go Jalen, Cam and Reed to new environment where he can be used effectively and bringing someone else since I don’t see Ime using them at all

Why? Have you considered you can't just turn every kid into a straight A student? This is the NBA, players like Green, Amen, Reed, and Sengun have an obligation to get better at running an offense that isn't dependent on FVV holding their hand.

Also he isn't trying to make the team reliant on him, unfortunately the team just isn't that good despite all the excuses and wishcasting fans make or saying FVV is a "max player" as a pejorative.

    Based on what?

Because many posters just can't accept the fact that our players aren't ready to consistently run an offense so they have to just assume Ime wants FVV to average 40 MPG?

I mean, if that's the case then the team should be looking for a star. Because if this is the team's ceiling with FVV, then they need someone better than FVV to reach the next level. Cause I'm sure if you a Rockets fan you didn't just suffer through 4 years of rebuild to see a one-and-done team in the playoffs every year.
