I am beginning to feel that Amen has a better chance of improving his range than Sengun. Amen has shown progress after less than two seasons while Sengun seems to have stagnated. Maybe that's out of necessity because of the positions they play. Sengun is the center and Amen spends a lot of time playing outside. I'd also give Sengun a little more time because he was not encouraged to develop the outside shot during the Silas years. But if he doesn't show any improvement after another offseason, I'll give up hope on that.

I’m not worried about his down year. I’m worried about his availability at 31 next year. He’s played 70 games only twice in his career. I’m worried about giving big money to a guy who can’t stay healthy and who is only getting older. So if he’ll take Dillon money, that’s great, but if he wants more than $25 mil per I’m not willing to pay it and I hope the front office feels similarly.

FVV has played under 64 games only once since his rookie year in a full season. This year will likely be a second time by a game or 2. Considering the Rockets have early Bird rights on him, whether he makes $25M or $30M is not much of a difference next season or the season after.

I don't want a starting PG making MLE money as I don't think a good option is available. I really don't get why people would want Tre Jones, Chris Paul, or Dennis Schroder as the starting PGs. If another Fox becomes available, trade for him. Oddly, a lot of the anti-FVV people were also anti-Fox. I don't want to waste Amen and Sengun 26-27 and 27-28 seasons based on forcing on ball reps down on Amen instead of developing him organically. Developing Amen organically has been going great.

Ok that's a really good market-setting price. Basically no way FVV can ask for more than $30m. Giddey, Harden, Tyus, D'angelo Russell, Dennis Schroeder, Spencer Dinwiddie are all free agents so the market is flooded, a good sign for us.

At his age and given his poor shooting and injury riddled season, there's a fair possibility we could snatch him for $75m for 3 years with the final season being either a team option or not fully guaranteed.

That's a number that would make me happy to give him 30 minutes as first guard off the bench or starting as off ball PG. I think the biggest danger to FVV is that his team option $42m is perfect for attaching picks and acquiring stars. I think he'll be willing to negotiate more than ever.

If we opt for upgrading role players around the core, Quickley is a very good option. Really like that guy. Tyrese Maxey lite, probably a better defender.

Could definitely see a situation where we extend him to a 3-4 year deal on a much lower annual salary.

28 minutes of FVV in the regular season with 20 minutes for Reed isn't so bad. It would be ideal.
But we all know that ain't happening. 42 for FVV 6 for Reed & Holiday.

If I were to take a wild guess, I would think both teams are interested in a longer-term deal. Rockets could play this correct to where it's more front-loaded, timed with Amen's contract extension, and more aligned with his role next year vs the end of the contract.

I know some people here want him out ASAP, but both parties have a mutual interest in staying together and there is still a plan in place

Dude shot 38% from the field this year, missed a bunch of time, and only played well in 3 out of 7 playoff games. Time to move on from Fred.

    oh God no

this dude was the worst player in the series for both teams the 1st 3 games, and he was bad in game 7

Stone loves to reward subpar and mediocrity

    he gave KPJr a contract…he gave Jalen a 30 mil/yr extension

Now we’re talking about bringing back FVV?

U resign fvv our offense will b sht regardless if we trade for a better sg or improve our roster.

Fvv cannot run an actual offense.

Would love him back on a friendly deal if he is willing to take a bench role sooner than later. Yeah he kind of sucked it up in the beginning of the series but he as a whole is good for the team. He was best after injury where he didnt hold the ball long and played off ball through Amen and Sengun. I think moving forward that’s what the team will ask of him if he stays.

I was just about to ask in the other thread what the deadline is and damn... that gives Stone very little time here.

I think ideally Stone and Fred's agent would want to really know what the market is so that way both sides could first explore a new deal, and if the sides are too far apart, Stone could then either pick up his option, or pick it up, and trade him to a team that has interest in signing him.

But the timing here doesn't leave any time to work through that which is why I would suspect that Stone picks up his option with the assumption he's coming back, and if the season goes south, or a star deal comes to fruition it's likely FVV will be in that deal.

    ...

If the Rockets were to decline his option, with the salary cap set around 150 million, the Rockets would be looking at 100 million-ish with cap holds for the rookie draft pick, Steven Adams (I think), and a few other items which probably doesn't give the Rockets much of anything to be able to sign much of an upgrade in free agency anyways right??

About the only thing that would make sense is a Harden reunion if they are decling FVV's team option... and I don't know if Harden would take a sweet homecoming deal as opposed to whatever he's going to get from the Clippers to return, and what the market looks like for him. In the past I have been all on board with FVV as the better fit for a rebuilding team, but maybe that has changed... I dunno... but the way I look at it is your options are:

-Pick up FVV's option, and see what you can do with his salary in trades if you can
-Decline his option, and pursue Harden
-Try hard to get a long-term vet deal in place for FVV (which I'm skeptical about since he's guaranteed 44 million if the Rox pick it up)
-Use whatever cap-space you have for other veteran players (Brook Lopez, Capela, etc.), and hope to God that Reed Sheppard, Jalen, Amen, etc. develop

Also I know it's super early but given the tight timeline here, I would really really appreciate a Bima/Clutch podcast this week if they can make that happen because the Rockets salary situation is just incredibly interesting.

He's a good player and under the right coach I'd gladly have him back at a significant discount.

However we're at a dead end with the slow Sengun/FVV offense. We maxed the capacity of that thing and it's not worth building around anymore.

Amen is a beast in fast pace and FVV either can't or won't or isn't asked to play up tempo. I hope we cut the cord whether Ime likes it or not and I genuinely think he was so important these two years. Can't thank him enough.

Giving FVV a new deal dooms the Rockets until they fire Ime or the new contract runs out
