Just watched the clip, and it is good. I'll be seeing the movie before it comes out so I'll post a review afterwards. Here's a little Marvel Update: As for comics, right now a lot of x-stuff is floundering. 198-as mentioned above, is rubbish Sentinal Squad- waste of time New X-men (teenagers) they are doing a shakeup with killing characters off, getting better Uncanny- claremont (who brought us the phoenix saga) is not fit for this day and age, he will be leaving the title soon. He's being replaced by Ed Brubaker who is a brilliant writer. I highly recommend his first 12 issues of Captain America and his recent stuff on Daredevil, and this is from someone who never was interested in either character until I read his stuff. Looking forward to him fixing a long ruined x-men title. X-men- apocalypse is bad, but characterization is really crap, writing is bad, but at least something new is happening. Also, a new writer coming on block, to bring back this dying title. Exiles: quasi x-related, but right now it sucks. Was one of the best x-titles in its beginning. Claremont is taking over soon, we'll see if this title is better for his talents. Astonishing X-men- If you like x-men and haven't read this, go buy the trade paper backs in a bookstore or online. Do it now. This title is written by Joss Whedon (Buffy, Serenity, Firefly) and it has brought back x-fans who haven't read the books in a decade. The only problem with this issue is it comes out every two months. Excalibur-claremont, crap X-men Deadly Genesis: this is a 6 issue by brubaker who is shaking things up by going back in continuity and introducing the idea that there was an X-men 1.5 that failed and died before Wolverine, colossus, nightcralwer et al. joined the team. It has been hit and miss with readers, I think its okay, but could have been 4 issues. If interested, the trade should be out in a few months. There are more, but none worth mentioning, but if you want to know more good titles, let me know. I read them all. ________________ Movies: Here's all the updated stuff as far as I know. Spiderman, Ghost Rider, are next year. Spider-man will kick ass if you like the first two movies. There is going to be a huge shocker, I believe, that will tingle any old school fans. Fantastic 4 2: Stupid brainless fun, jessica alba in a skintight suit. Next summer release. Iron Man: Jon Favreau from swingers has just been penned as director. Probably a 2008-2009 release. Wolverine- background story involving Weapon X Magneto- young magneto, no gandalf Academy X- is possible Huk 2- the are learning from their mistakes. Marvel is getting the rights back and will be producing it themselves, so they care more about audience approval. Expect it to be more fun and have more action. the writer of X3 is writing this one too. Hulk smash b****! probably due late next year or early 2008 Captain America- David Self (road to perdition) is writing it, probably a 2010 release. Punisher 2: didn't like the first one? i didn't even see it. I've been told this one will be as violent as hell. There are a few other very interesting ideas down the line, but I can't disclose them yet. Marvel also has a film facility to produce their own movies. This is good because they care more about the quality and long lasting appeal of their movies, as opposed to Fox who made the X-men somewhat unrecognizable and too seperate from the books and other stuff. these movies are: Hawkeye Dr. Strange Cloak and Dagger Power Pack The Avengers Ant-Man- Zak Penn (shaun of the dead) is writing. Will be a comedy, I'm told Black Panther Nick Fury- Hollow man writer is doing this one Thor- its hammer time, the Poseidon writer is doing this one. Namor- the submariner Black Widow Silver Surfer Deathlok (why god, why) Shang Chi Now, you may ask yourself why they got a 500 million dollar credit line for a bunch of crap character movies. A lot of their other big-named characters are licensed out to other folks, which they had to do during their bad management and bankruptcy days. (Did you know they only got $1 million total for licensing out MIB and MIBII? And that the first spider-man movie license cost sony only $200,000?) They are trying to see if they are capable of making movies themselves. If they can, then they can get on with X-men, spider-man etc. you are going to see a rich ass company that collects all the profit for themselves. For stock market people, if the first movie from that film facility does well, buy a lot of stock. Overall, X3 looks like it will do well on the opening week because the publicity and first looks have been astonishing. The question is whether the movie will be good on the second and following weeks up until Superman. As I said, I'll have a review in two weeks.
the ghost rider teaser trailer looks ordinary. btw, what was that marvel comic from 80s or 90s that had these crystal people set in a scifi medieval world?
Claremont always seemed too "star trek" for me. Even Phoenix saga which everyone slurped was just so cheesy for my taste. When Jim Lee came along and worked with Claremont everything changed, it was such a great combo. We got Claremont's creativity but Lee obviously kept him in check and added a cooler edge. Those were some good times... And the Magneto movie is exciting, he is by far my most favorite character in comics.
I liked what I saw in that 7 minute preview, but I'm still not sure I can believe that Ratner will deliver a good film. Aint it Cool has 2 reviews, one was very positive, but it seems they think now that the reviewer is some fanboy who wanted to stop the guys over there frome having a negative outlook on the film, so he pimped the film out to be better than it might be, basically like a studio plant. This one seems to be from a source they've used and it's a negative review: I can't believe they went out of their way to put in a line from that goofy viral video of those 2 guys doing the voices for the X-Men cartoon. That thing was funny on it's own, but it shouldn't be referenced in a movie. http://aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=23292 Here's the link to the positive review: http://aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=23285
The clip they showed yesterday was decent nothing terrible, aside from the outfits the kids Magneto runs into, aside from that it looks pretty good, will have to see how the action sequences work out, some of what they've shown in the trailer looks, well, a little silly, mostly thinking of Storms stuff
i hate the "its what we both want. no, its what you want" line. its been done to death and its not that good anyhow. cant people make up new dialog nowadays?
