I really liked the Age of Apocolypse series, even though it really didn't make much difference in the Marvel Universe. The Mutant Massacre was the first X-Men only arc, IIRC. Great X-Men universe changing storyline. I can't remember the details of the 'Inferno' storyline other than Madalin Prior being the 'Goblin Queen' and the great art, but I do remember that my impression was that the entire thing was contrived. I haven't read comics for 10 years, so couldn't comment on anything since then. I liked the trailer and had fun trying to figure out who was who by pausing it. I like that it looks like Colossus will get more screen time (although his armor doesn't look as cool as in X2). I read that Hugh Jackman is under contract for another movie after X3, and strong rumors suggest that a Wolverine series is a lock. I'm glad because I think he pegged Wolverine so far. If this one makes money, which it will, there will be more X-flicks. It's Hollywood, after all. I'm in complete agreement with the 'Drop Halle Berry' camp. Her demands for more screen time and dialogue are probable the biggest reason why the series hasn't really rung a true bell with me so far. I know that Storm was at times leader of the X-Men, but I never liked her. Regardless of my opinion, Halle Berry can't pull off the badass-ness that is needed to make Storm a strong character in the movies. I will go see X3 regardless of reviews or opinions of ubergeeks like the ones on AintItCoolNews, just like I did with The Hulk and the Matrix sequels.
Yea the whole Goblin Queen thing was really contrive it was a big ole deal to recon Cyclopes from being a total HEEL and an *SSHOLE [I mean he ran out on his wife and new born child to run around with his thought to be formerly dead former GF] It really p*ssed me off they had to do that crap to clean up his character I would really push for a Nightcrawler movie .. . maybe even as some kind of detective or something the opening scene of the last X-men Movies was too good I think Jackman has done a good job with wolverine It will be interesting to see if they put Sabretooth into the movie as well Rocket River
I'm kind of annoyed they introduced the Nightcrawler character but then didn't bring him back in the 3rd movie.
It's not a rumor, A Wolverine spinoff and a Magneto as a young man hunting down Nazis spinoff are all greenlit and in development. The Wolverine movie is being written by the guy who wrote Troy.
In addition to wolverine (one villian right now is omega red) and magneto, there will also be an "Academy X" movie that will focus on the students. I don't know if this will be a continuation with rogue, shadowcat, iceman and colossus, or if it will be something completely new, they are waiting for after X3 to decide Cummings didn't want to do another movie because he didn't want to do go through the makeup again (making rebecca romjin more manly than he is). The producers were fine with that because they wanted to include beast and angel, and felt they exceeded their "blue character" limit. Nightcrawler's opening was great, but the character in the movie simply was not interesting, who wants a teleporting blue demon to be a religious pacifist and dress like a gypsy bum? After marvel get's the x-men license back from fox, they plan to restart. Generally, they are not happy with this trilogy and plan to start over under their own terms in 5-8 years.
http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/x_men_the_last_stand/trailers.php looks pretty dang good from that trailer
If you're talking about the team that had Warpath and Sunfire (i.e. Giant Sized XMen #1), sorry to break it to you but Rogue was never part of that team. If you're talking about the Gold Team that Storm led during the XMen/Uncanny Xmen Era in the 90s that team had Storm (as leader), Jean Grey, Bishop, Archangel, Colossus (before he teamed up with Magneto), and Iceman. And the reason why they were #1 is instead of the original 5 is because of 1. Wolverine and 2. the original Xmen went on to form and be in X-Factor.
It was ThunderBird [Warpath's big brother] and no the Golden Age was X-men 190 - 220 Rogue join around 180 or so At that time Jean and Angel was in X-Factor Remember Angel became ArchAngel AFTER the Mutant Massacre [he was a Victim of the Marauders] Before he was ArchAngel . . he was DEATH Rocket River . .good to know the ole comic book Geek still lives
touche on the Thunderbird call. As fancy and as overhyped as it was, the early 90s wasn't so bad. I think Claremont did a decent job of storytelling. (I'm a big Jim Lee fan alright?!? ) And then you got the Fatal Attractions story line where they did a "can they really do that?!?" move by having Magneto pull out Wolverine's adamantium. Anything after that sucked (even the Onslaught saga). /traveling back 12-13 years to boyhood geekness
I remember Everyone referring to the OnSlaught stuff as ONSLUT - X-MEN WHORING FOR MONEY because it was so contrived The Magneto Pulling the Admantium was weak the puttting it back in was weaker Rocket River
I lost interest during the Fall of the Mutants, which was just ridiculous. Cypher died and that alien tried to reactivate his dead body or something, the X-Men were resurrected by some sort of goddess after fighting some demon in Dallas and then sent to Australia, and most of all, I got a girlfriend. I dig the movies, however. If Marvel isnt happy with them, explain how they could be possibly happy with FF or Daredevil or Electra. X-Men and Spidey have made great movies.
Sure it might be a last ditch effort to save the franchise but man...who would have thought Marvel having enough cajones to do that? That's why I think it was pretty good (Magneto ripping it out of him and Prof. X giving Mags a lobotomy at the end). I mean it DID turn a lot of people off, mad a lot of fans mad, and a lot more negative things but man...you cannot say it wasn't a shocker. Back to X3...I really think they should have a spinoff movie for Gambit or Longshot. Wolverine? TOO easy. Magneto? TOO artsy fartsy.
I was the biggest fan post-Massacre through Inferno (Storm, Wolverine, Rouge, Collosus, Dazzler, Longshot) and X-tinction Agenda. Really enjoyed the Marauders, Reavers, and Sinister. I dropped out around when they started X-Men to run with Uncanny X-Men. Still read a graphic novel or two here and there, and really didn't dig it when they started making up crappy new characters (Maggot, Marrow, etc) and were f'ing with Wolverine (bone claws, becoming a horeseman, etc). Yeah, i've never heard of this Marvel being unhappy with Singer's movies, though I wouldn't put it past Avi Arad to say that now after Singer left to do Superman. Something about Arad irks me. But I believe nyquil has a friend or some kind of an in at Marvel, so he knows some things. BTW, what do you guys think about what's been going on recently in the comics with House of M and the 198. I read them off and on, but have been keeping up quite a bit lately. If you don't know, House of M was this big storyline where Scarlett Witch, after having gone crazy and killing some of her fellow Avengers, is being taken care of by Prof. X and Magneto on Genosha. But she is slipping so the New Avengers and the X-men arrange a meeting to decide what to do, one of the options being to kill her. Quicksilver warns Magneto and demands he do something. When both teams show up on Genosha, the world turns white and they all awaken in an alternate reality where mutants rule and humans are a minority. The Royal House of M rules the world with Magneto basically being a king. Wolverine, wakes up and knows this is wrong, because of all the mind wiping and programming he wasn't affected by Scarlett Witch. The only other person who knows is some girl who's mutant power is to "wake people up" from this reality. She converts Luke Cage first and he hooks up with Wolverine and they "wake up" others. When they have enough people together, they confront Magneto thinking he was responible but he doesn't know either, turns out Quicksilver made Wanda do it. Wanda being fed up with everything makes a wish; "no more mutants" and the world turns back to normal except that 99% of the mutant population has been turned to normal humans including Magneto. The rough estimate is that there are only 198 mutants left in the world and they are all sent to a "voluntary" camp at the X-mansion. Oh, and Wolverine wakes up and remembers all his real memories.
198 seems like THE 4400 . .. to me I don't particularly like it I only catching bits and peices of it Rocket River It is bizarre cause isn't Cyclops and EMMA Frost together now?
With it coming out in 2 weeks, they showed a 7 min clip on the series finale on "That 70's Show" in which its online now to view on Dell's website (you'll see why) http://www.dell.com/html/us/xmen/index.html Shows pretty much all of the new mutants besides Juggernaut and Kitty Pryde. Pretty good clip and Kelsey Grammer is PERFECT for the role of Beast, has the voice down, almost like the cartoon. also, for those who didn't see the "fastball special" scene that was shown on Leno a few weeks back, check it below: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iatiXkCcU88
