he will always be a turnover-machine. u just have to accept it. the same way the heat tolerate wade's ridiculous amount of turnovers. you has more good than bad so u tolerate that. but like i said, as the offense gets better, tmac returns to his w/o the ball movement, yao will get more assists and his game will truly become all-around. i envision him averaging 25ppg, 10rpg, 5 apg => KG and larry-bird-like right there.
Yao started playing better when Adelman stuck him back in the low post and made a commitment to feeding him. Because he's doing that the high post stuff now seems like a decent changeup to keep the defenders off balance. I am not opposed to using Yao in the high post slightly to keep defenders guessing, but he was using it too much early in the season. Congrats to Yao. We have an even tougher week next week and we'll need our guys to keep their performance at a high level to win.
yao has been playing like a monster this season. it looks as though he is begining to understand that he can dominate games now..
yao is still in the high post A LOT. i'd say 30% of the time. he took 4 18ft jumpshots yesterday and made 3. and a lot of his fallaways were far away from the paint. outside of the dunks tmac/james set him up, he got his pts from the jumpers and fallaways. so actually yesterday, he was primarily at the 13-15 ft range. but i think yao is just getting comfortable playing outside again. after playing under JVG and never ventured outside of 10ft, it's a struggle to regain your shooting touch. now he's shooting that jumper w/o much hesitation and doing those fallaways 12-15 ft from the basket w/ ease.
I believe his TOs will go down as the team adapt the new system better. Right now , the time of ball passing is not that perfect. I think Yao should use more gestures on the court to demand the ball passing.
man i understand that turnovers can be frustrating. but yao is 7'5. sure he is very agile and quick for his size but he still that coordinated. the tos will always be there if he only avgs 3-4 a game i'm fine with that.
it'll go down, but it will still be high. yao right now averages a ridiculous 4 turnovers a game. last yr he avg 3.5 to w/o passing much. so i think he'll hover around 3.5-4 to the whole season. but as long as it'll help him in other aspects of the game, u accept it. yao is not a low turnover guy and he will never be. the same way tmac will never penetrate the whole game like u want. he'll take 75-80% jumpshots and penetrate the other 20-25%. u accept it. but if they execute in crucial situations, that's all that matters.
Yao has been doing a better job of finding cutters for sure, but I've seen him post up more and get closer to the basket in the last 3 games than I did in the first 4. It is no accident that his FT/game have gone back up to 6.7. I really don't want him shooting that 18 foot shot. I am OK with this offense as it has been run the last 3 games. Yao gets his plentiful post-ups, McGrady gets his iso's, post-ups, and pick and rolls, and occasionally we'll start with Yao at the high post to keep the defense guessing. I'd rather not see the full Sacto Adelman offense.
The key thing is to keep both Yao and Tmac healthy during the whole season. I'm opmistic on this because Rick is doing better player rotation job than JVC.
what is your definition of the low post? how far is the low post for you? if you watch R2K's highlights, yao was consistently at the 13-15 ft range (which is "bad" thing under JVG who didn't want him outside of 10ft). i think yao will move towards more the high post as we go along b/c the last few games, he's been great out there. adelman has stated he has limited tmac's touches in terms of moving w/o the ball and isos and running more set plays from last yr to get yao and the rest going. so i think as yao gets more comfortable, he'll play like he did v. the bobcats, around 30-35% high post. it's REALLY helping his overall game. u can't judge the struggles of the first 2 games b/c well like i said, playing under JVG for 4 seasons and completely reverse the style of play can be hard. now he's adapting pretty well.
I didn't watch the first quarter yesterday where Yao apparently did nothing. But in the last 3 quarters he got the ball either in the post or off the pick and roll in position to finish, and went to the high post only occasionally. That's been the trend for the last 3 games. The pick and roll was working so Charlotte went back to playing behind Yao, and then he went back into the low post. Really there is no debate of which is better; low post is obviously better. But if putting Yao in the high post occasionally keeps the defense guessing and lets Yao play more minutes, then it's fine. I don't think Yao needs to come up to the elbow any more than he's been doing in the last few games; in fact I think we'll see Scola/Hayes do more of that, and I know we've already seen McGrady in the high post quite a bit.
if the low post means posting up, then yes. but the low post is not within 10ft o the basket, but rather 13-15 ft. but the thing we have not seen since the first 2 games is the tmac w/o the ball and moving around. that has been completely shut down for now to get the rest of the team involved. it's obvious no one can pass well enough for tmac to play without the ball so he has returned to his playmaker role. hopefully as yao gets more acclimated, bonzi, james/scola and the rest get better, tmac will play without the ball again. he's most dangerous when he does NOT have the ball actually and just catch and attack. harder to key on him. but that's been shelved for now.
