LOL, I know. It's like perfect the perfect troll hotel: once the diehard partisans come in, they don't come out.

Obama bought them with her own money. Palin bought hers with GOP money, while she was railing against the Obamas for being elitist.

When you go around calling your opponent an "elitist, out of touch snob" you open yourself to such criticism, especially when you use public funds for such things.

Michelle Obama wearing designer shoes that, you know, she PAID FOR WITH HER OWN MONEY, isn't exactly the same.

Michelle has really been neutered by the democratic machine after her "ashamed to be an American" comment. They all know that the less she's visible in public, the less chances for her to embarrass herself and her party again with her ignorance and inexperience. Probably a good thing for America

Is it ever ok, in your opinion, to not be proud of your country?

    Just curious.

Intersting question, although not relevant in this thread. Are you aware that Michelle was never proud of her country until Barack was a serious contender for POTUS?

    Yeah I've heard the soundbyte.

Are you proud of the US for electing Barack Obama?

This question can be posed a number of ways to make anyone look like a commie traitor I think.

And if the question isn't relevant, then I think you bringing up Michelle's quote is pretty irrelevant, too.

What, were you there with a truth serum for her entire life?

cause I'm pretty sure the one hyperbolic, spur-of-the moment statement she made only covered her "adult life". just sayin

You really didn't need to warp it even further to try to stoke the fires of faux partisan anger.

You do know Michelle's polling even higher than her husband right?

Exactly. It's no so much about talking to other about their political views as it is about attacking political views that aren't like yours. Just how people in general are I suppose.

    Oh hell....

Some of you are saying they're millionaires all by themselves and are free to spend their own damn money as they see fit.

Others are saying know your audience and dress for the occasion, especially when your shoes can feed the very homeless you are trying to feed for a long period of time.

So....should she look like a pauper or should she simply have "bought American" and gone with $50-$100 Nikes that were made in China? Or Reeboks or Asics or what? Perhaps worn something more formal that probably cost 2-3 times what those shoes cost?

And how is this any different than Palin's business suit "scandal"?

The silliness of both sides here is ludicrous.

IMO the media is always concentrating on what she is wearing every time she steps out of her house that the issues around us. So what if she spent 500+ dollars on some shoes. If she has the money then why not.(you wouldn't catch me spending 500 dollars on shoes even if I did have the money).
She does make fashion mistakes, but everyone has their own taste in fashion.
If she wants to spend 540 dollars on some shoes that look like they are spray painted that's her business.

But not as bad as Cindy McCain right? Whew - did we dodge a bullet.

    Cindy McCain:
Oscar de la Renta dress: $3,000
Chanel J12 White Ceramic Watch: $4,500
    Three-carat diamond earrings: $280,000
    Four-strand pearl necklace: $11,000–$25,000
    Shoes, designer unknown: $600
    Total: Between $299,100 and $313,100

So public money went into buying a public figure running for public office a dress which was then going to be auctioned off with the proceeds going to charity.

Whatever. The media ate her alive.

You side isn't looking any better than their side, pg. In my humble opinion.

If you really want to know - the Palin thing was after disgruntled McCain employees outed her as having way overspent her allowance on clothing from wealthy donors. That, combined with the faux populism of the self-styled hockey mom who racked up massive bills at Nieman was what made it a story.

    Accordingly - it's qualitatively different.

But you seem to be somewhat of an apologist for her, so I guess there's no point as you may harbor a different take.
