Kobe shouldn't be a starter in the all star game...period...Chandler is playing better them right now yet he's far down the list of votes....WE NEED TO START VOTING

It's a popularity contest. Why are people so surprised that some of the most popular players, are leading in votes?

Every year, some random fans will complain how some other random fans have no clue about the game, or even cuter, no "respect" for the game.

It's fan voting, for crying out loud, as much as fans complain about David Stern and league officials in cyber space, that's the ONLY TIME in a YEAR, where your voice is actually heard by the "league".

If the systems allows, you can put David Stern on every single position, if you WANT TO.

There is no disapprove button to shout down those so-called "no clue" fans. You can vote anyone you'd LIKE TO SEE, why should your neighbor have a problem with that?

It's NOT a debate or number comparison for wannabe "analysts", just a simple free exercise for whoever wants to participate and how he/she wants to participate.

That being said, I couldn't care less for the all-star game, and never voted anyone. Still, I am perfectly fine if you vote for Luther Head 10 times a day, simply because you want to see him that much.

It's messed up, but its the only way to get extremely casual fans interested in the ASG and the NBA, as a whole.

It's never going to be abolished if there's money to be made.

LOL! Even in fan voting, the east sucks. Asik would be #10 and Lillard at #7 in the east.

Poor James Harden losing to Jeremy Lin in votes pretty badly.

It's not surprising at all. The guy is still virtually unknown. In fact, if he weren't around Lin so much, he'd probably only get half the votes he currently has.

Lol. No one is gonna complain about kyrie getting the starting spot even though he's been weak this year because everyone loves his handles and wants to see him there. Or Derrick rose getting third place. Its all about name recognition. And harden doesn't get highlighted a lot.

dwight is having an awesome, minus the free throw shooting aspect. Still impacts the floor like no other in the paint defensively.

Parsons should be there taking over blakes spot. He is more important to the team than any other player not named Howard.

Harden is the the top SG in the west so well deserving.

as for lin, i think it's funny when someone wants to make an argument to go with his agenda they'll say something like, pshhh, nobody in asia cares about lin. when asia cares about lin, well.... just asians showing favoritism.

Can't win with the party poopers.

Its for the fans (supposedly). So if the fans want make stupid choices not knowing anything how the player is playing this year sacrificing worthy players that should be given a nod so be it.

Until the way voting is changed it will always be big names getting votes and deserving players getting snubbed no matter how well they play.

Next to the how the playoff teams are seeded, all star voting definitely needs to be revamped next.

No everyone like watching someone who primary objecting is drawing foul and flop like a fish.

yeah you answered your own query; kd is just as foul-reliant as harden, so that's a wash. and kd never has to guard a top-flight perimeter player and is often ball-watching on defense. the difference is they have sefalosha on their squad, and russ can be a ballhawk at times so it makes up for his laziness on defense.

but parker? really? give me cp3, lillard, curry or even jrue holiday this season over parker. tp's been mostly pedestrian if you've watched the spurs play any games other than the one vs houston a week or two ago.

I guess some Lin fans from NY also voting for him..although he doesn't deserve to be in front of Harden. Surprised Parsons not getting many votes

Why is Dirk so low? He's playing great.

This whole "doesn't deserve" discussion is useless. If this were actually about who's the best objectively, then there would be no need for fan votes at all. A computer could just select everyone.

It is a popularity contest that has been treated as an All Pro honor. The merit award is All NBA Team selection.

The NBA is a business and players getting into the Allstar game due to fandom and not skill or production is kosher in Stern's league. These are the players fans want to see; the players that bring in the eyeballs and the money. The NBA specifically asks fans to vote for "their favorite players".

All NBA is reserved for the best players without regard to popularity. Maybe the league should call All NBA selections "super-duper stars" or make more fanfare out of the announcement so the merit distinction would be more popular?
