next year will be a wasted year. with VSPAN having a summer to work on his game and if he does that - he may contribute next year, but that won't be enough.
My perspective on the JVG dismissal: It was the correct decision and if I'm wrong, I'm dead wrong and I'll live with it, but I absolutely, positively believe it was the correct decision. Secondly, if people seriously believe we are going to play like the Phoenix Suns, they aren't using common sense. Anyone can see we that we are not a team that can run a full speed/full scale uptempo offense. We will run selectively. We will run a motion offense. Meaning we have cutters while Yao is posting up or at the top of the key and while McGrady has the ball controlling the offense. No one in their right mind believes our roster/players can play like Phoenix. WTF do people on this board believe that a man that has coached for 16 seasons, has 14 playoff apperances, and a coaching record of 752-481 believe we can play like Phoenix? Why do people keep spouting this crap out? I know you know that we can not play this way, do you think he can't see that? Come on now.
I don't believe that. Will Rockets become worse without JVG? No, even the worst coach can carry Rockets into playoff. JVG already got enough chance. It is time for him to leave.
I said that earlier. I like JVG and I think he is a great coach, but not for our team. Why? Because JVG thinks only for defense and I think it kils us. Of cours defense is important but when you have Tracy and Yao you cannot concentrate only on defense. Adelman looks like he is a batter ofensive coach so that should be good for us. Look last season we were one of the best defensive teams in the leauge but we had only 90+ PPG. In my opinion we could easily have 100+ PPG. So I don't think firing JVG was the worst decision.
Les was quoted as saying he wanted a more uptempo offense, maybe even run some like the Suns (I can't recall the exact quote). I believe Les wants a more exciting offense because that's what the casual fan wants to see and that's what will make him more money. And while it would be nice to run like the Suns, I really don't think expects us to adopt THAT fast pace of an offense. I'm sure he'd like to see more running and more transition baskets, but how much of the game is that? When people think up tempo, they think the Suns and automatically assume that's what we're going to try to do. For people who believe that, rest assured that we are not. There is a big gray area in the middle of the spectrum that we are able to work within. We can certainly play at a faster pace than we have been. Yes, we can even do it with Yao. And we can have a more interesting motion based offense that relies on more than Tracy trying to create a shot or Yao in the low post with 4 guys standing around the 3 point arc. And ultimately, that's what Les wants.
I think the important point for me here is that None of the uptempo offences remain in the play offs. Phoneix, Golden State, even New Jersey and Chicago to a degree
Come on guys stop being a prophet.....Just let things take their way I mean if you think about it, many fans here say :Adelman will make a dynasty and others say : Adelman will be out in two years... We all have seen JVG's defensively built Rockets and Adelman's offensively built Kings...Rockets have a bad time at offence, Sacramento at defence...Perhaps a good defence wins a championship...perhaps a good effence does. Probably a compination of them. But every coach has his own philosophy aboub bball...Jeff had his and tried to get a ring for Houston...he didn't make it happen..Now it's time to try something new. Yes, i could be risky to sign Adelman and change team's playing style. But it's better than nothing So,my point is, when something doesn't go right, you better make a risk and change it than just sit and do nothing...so i don't think firing JVG is a mistake at all...Well, i guess time will tell
why? because he don't trust and develop players, so when he knew he need adjustment but he can not find any players he trust to do that. Then hopeless and this the reason why we do 2-0 and then lost at 3-4 two times. So, JVG need to go. He is a great regular season coach, not a playoff.
he tried putting other players on boozer, including hayes and battier - they got punished. he tried lots of things - even synder and vspan got into the game during the series. but you know what - where was the turning point in game 7? How about a rafer alston turnover followed by juwan howard missing a jump shot and that chuck hayes foul. Fact is, no matter what JVG did - we found out one thing: we had too many scrubs to beat a team with too many good players. Zone D's have changed the game folks - it really does take 5 now.
Mistake or not, You have to fire him after the bad loss in this year's playoff. 4-Year no sucess in playoff means something. The Management either has to trade players or to fire the coach. Now there is no way that LES will trade Yao or Tmac. So you gotta fire JVG. Sorry for him! He is a damn good coach. Unfortunately he was in a bad situation. Move on, Guys!.We are rockets fans!!!! Please stop any threads about JVG. It was the past.( I am not saying that I do not appreciate what has done here in H-Town. I DO appreciate it!!!!)
We are not all Rockets fans. Some are just New Yorkers who have a man crush on Van Stumpy because he led their crappy team to the Finals like a bajillion years ago.
Sounds like you are almost hoping history repeats itself. That way you get to come here and claim how firing your homeboy was a big mistake.
You will find out after the JVG firing, Rockets will have as many good players as other teams.(if Adelman is hired) By the way, those "adjustments" you mentioned, if they did happen, sucked in their own way. Now we know JVG can make weak, wrong and useless adjustments. so?
Not to pick on just you dude but to all you guys jumping on the "fire the coach" band wagon; What adjustments woud YOU have made? All I see are bunch of posts clamouring for the coach to be replaced but nobody is offering any ideas on what could have been done differently. Please be so bold as to back your assault up with some recommened strategies. Critics are a dime a dozen but innovative ideas that actualy work, well thats another story. Oh and do remember that it is a players league, the coach can plan but the players have to execute; which Utah clearly did better then the Rockets in the series.
Defensively, yes. But offensively, no. I guess we just have to wait until next season to know if it was a mistake or not.
