Not sure I like the autofill for the address bar. I like my first choice to be the top level of a site and it doesn't seem to be working out that way (which I thought the old version did).

I think it does it by number of visits. When I put in bbs.clutchfans.... it automatically puts the GARM in the address bar. Which is where I start out each time I visit (and is in fact where my bookmark goes).

Did you check the options to see if there are settings you can change?

I just cleared my history and started from scratch... I don't have too much time to screw around with the settings just yet - I still have to work for the rest of the week. I'll do some exploring here and there until the weekend.

There were a few outside after the thunderstorm, but I quickly made it back inside with minimal damage.

This is kind of an antiquated statement, like Oski's previously. More and more frequently software companies release public betas so when the final product comes out you're not shocked with a laundry list of bugs. Or at the very least expectations are already tempered. Not to mention Mozilla is quick with coming out with software updates.

Anyways I waited until now to let the traffic die down and finally download and install FF3. It's lightning quick and uses fewer resources, as promised. I think they've done a great job with it.

My beautiful theme I'm used to over the past two years is gone!

And the location bar reveals too much about my history! Other than that, it's neat. I don't know about the fastness of it...I guess I never notice how fast a site loads to know the difference between then and now.

Yeah is there an extension for this? My nephew uses my laptop a lot.. I don't want him to find out about his uncle's NSFW habits.

Give him his own profile and password protect yours. Make his account non-administrative so he can't install crap.

You can always ERASE YOUR HISTORY if you don't like the drop-down menu that shows a small intro to your sites. I like this option.
As you type, and the sites start displaying, use your arrow key to move down to the TOP-LEVEL site, and press ENTER. No need to waste time using your mouse.
If you must use the same profile on the same PC, go to the Privacy tab of the Options, select "Always clear my private data when I close FireFox." De Nada ;).

The only problem is if you have some 'questionable' bookmarks. The drop down will also include your bookmarks in the search so they will show up. I don't think there's any direct option to exclude them (which has been a common complaint during the betas). I think there's one or two workarounds out there to stop displaying any results altogether though, which would solve the problem. :D

There have been a few glitches on my machine -- I miss some of my add-ons that aren't updated for 3 yet -- wish I would have waited a bit.

^ Didn't you know you can install on a separate instance, so that it didn't upgrade your previous version and you could keep both? :( See, I sometimes wonder if some people can do things different ways.

I've always stored my bookmarks using Google toolbar. I also deleted that "getting started with firefox" bookmark that came with the install and now I don't have anything that pops up in the drop down box when I enter a URL.

I haven't noticed a difference with the speed. If anything it might actually be a little slower. At least it feels that way.

The only reason I downloaded it was because they said it uses up less memory. My RAM usage is at 51% and Firefox is the ONLY thing I have running. Usually it runs at about 34-36% with many applications running.

Not happy with this at all.

    EDIT-

    http://www.kejut.com/browsermemory

I knew it! Firefox 3 is worse than Firefox 2 in terms of performance and memory usage. I knew something was wrong when my fan would not stop running. I'm going to downgrade.

I love Firefox, but as an IIS admin I gotta say I got a good laugh out of the fact that their site went down for a while yesterday. That'll teach em not to run Apache. ;)

    Memory Usage Test: Firefox 2 & 3, Opera 9, IE 7
    24 Nov 2007

Way to use an 8 month old review about the first (?) beta release.

    http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/pos...-diet-eats-less-memory-than-ie-and-opera.html

This is at least closer to now, even though it's still 3 months old.

I've had no problems with the official download...ran RC2 for about a week now, ran RC1 since long before that.

It's MUCH better than the beta that was released back then.
