And you’re wondering why the hate for Easterby? He’s the last one standing from that ridiculous GM by committee that single handedly turned us into, as you put it, “a bottom feeder team with no picks or cap space.” Should also note he is the reason why we had a GM by committee in the first place. The idiot tampered with Caserio inside Robert Kraft’s home. And got caught for crying out loud. Should have been fired right there. Instead he is our interim GM with Cal publicly saying he’s gonna be a part of this franchises future.
Watching Watson play qb and The Pending off season maneuvering are the highlights of this season. Cap space can always be created* -12 million when the official year starts in 2021 I could see the Texans ending up with 20-25 million in cap space by the start of free agency. https://www.nbcsports.com/philadelp...ucture-fletcher-coxs-contract-clear-cap-space *as long as cal isn't doing the cap
I'm not wondering about the hate...I'm saying it has been over the top and seems way more personal than the usual fire someone threads/complaints. I'm just sick of hearing about the guy and feel like the media is driving this so hard. It feels gross, and people are acting like he has to be fired tonight and escorted out of the building. If going forward he isn't allowed to have input on personnel decisions I could care less if he his VP of Strategery or some BS. Newsflash.... owners hire buddies or keep guys around that become buddies. Nepotism and the good ol' boy network is thick even in sports. Usually they just promote them out of power....
It seems over the top because the whole situation kinda is. There is reason why it’s gone way beyond the usual “fire someone threads/complaints.” Why national writers have tweeted about what they’re hearing on him. Why SI just put out a pretty scathing about him and the Texans. It’s not personal, it’s interesting and it’s ongoing. You’re right, buddies get hired all the time and for the most part no one gives a crap. This does seem like not one of those times.
Honestly you must have been checked out of Houston football for the last decade if this is raising your own personal flags about feeling gross or that it's over the top. I guess nothing this long has been written to expose BOB, so that's new, but what else can be done when it's someone who purposefully keeps away from the spotlight but is climbing the ladder to positions that directly influence the actual players.
The article seems like payback for the Texans firing Amy Palcic, and I would bet she is a main source for the story. The hate on Easterby feels insane because the owner has already said he won't be the GM and his role will be up to the new GM. Yet the media is on a mission to get this guy run out of town even before the season ends. It seems odd. If Cal wants to have the guy around I just don't care provided a new GM calls the shots.
What does it matter if he’s not going to be GM? We want him gone for past transgressions, and so he can’t do anything else before the GM gets here.
This. Easterby seems way unqualified/incompetent for the role he is tasked with, but that article was unseemly, with lots of anonymous disparagement and nonspecific character attacks. Everyone has personality deficiencies, and you could probably find people in any organization to complain (especially anonymously) about someone in a position of power.
“But until the billionaire who runs Houston's NFL team admits that dysfunction exists, the poorly run Texans will keep being one of the NFL's most disappointing franchises. They can't win with Watson but they have allowed themselves to be influenced and run by Easterby. Congrats, Texans.”
Honestly you shouldn't have any respect for people who think they deserve to be "character" coaches because they are Christian. This is a proffesional work environment, not a place to proselytize to your employees . The problem is that the Mcnair family views morality through a conservative religous lense rather than an empathetic lense. I don't want a NFL organization being run based on conservative christian supply side jesus principles.
The article makes it clear that there are many sources. The dude needs to be fired but more importantly the county needs to find a way to force a sale to a new owner.
For someone who claims not knowing who he is what he has done, seems odd to think this is some media driven conspiracy to drive an interim GM out of town. Easterby should have been fired after he botched the Caserio pursuit. That was a national story that was an absolute embarrassment for Cal and the franchise. It was also the catalyst to all things to come from that point. At the very latest, he should have been fired alongside BoB for the hideous trades that have gutted this team and the crap contracts that will continue to hurt us. As you said, it will get worse before it gets better and we are years before we are good again. And that's with a superstar QB getting into his prime. Easterby and BoB worked in tandem in all these deals so not sure how you can think the hate is not warranted. As far Easterby moving forward, we have no idea how Cal will handle this. If you take Cal word for word, then no it won't be up to the GM and Easterby is going to work with him in some type of capacity. The only person reporting that the GM will make the call is John McClain who claims Cal told him that following the Schefter interview.
Sources I bet she lined up; remember, the players came out in force after her firing. I think @Redfish81 is on to something.
Rick Smith had Cal like this too. It's weird how these used car salesmen can do this to him. (no disrespect to used car salesmen on Clutch Fans)
