I'm just as baffled that this team is a good defensive team. I would have thought that it would take them longer to gel on the defensive side of the ball...guess not.

I'm just about ready to say Rudy has to be taken off the bench. The latest personnel decisions -- Yao, Nachbar, Posey -- have all been smart. But his ball handlers clearly aren't listening to him. When that happens, you have to change either the coach or the ball handlers. Barring a huge turnaround in the Rockets' performance in the next few weeks, I'm for changing the coach no later than the end of this season and, if that doesn't fix the listening problem, changing the ball handlers no later than the end of next season.

Francis is more the problem than Rudy is, but he's also a lot harder to replace with someone of equal caliber. It ain't fair, but it's business.

Rudy has no record of whipping cocky young selfish players into a team. His success has come with veterans and with guards who recognized that the best player on the team wasn't them.

My list of untradeable players is down to 1: Yao.

I used to be rather critical of Yao. But having watched the last few games, it occurs to me that Yao may do much better under another coach. I don't think Rudy knows how to use Yao to maximum benefit. Yao certainly must be "milked" more when he is hitting. Let's hope that some of the fans' comments leak out to Rudy's ears.

Yes, but Francis learned to score only, and he was continually told how "good he is" it goes to his head. Why learn passing skills? That's what happened to Francis. That's why his turnovers are sooo high.

He's learning how to pass in the NBA, not in jr. high or h.s. like he should have.

39 yo coach wins NFL. Rudy 54 yo too old

Who says a young coach cannot win a championship? Who says that coach needs to be "experienced" "wise" old man?

Today's Rudy is not the same as 93-95's Rudy. The Rudy back then had energy, passion, motivation. What about now? Rudy doesn't seem to care. Rudy's teams are lottery contenders forever.

There are some problems in Rockets' offense and they play a real basketball IMG. Rockets depends on SF too much. Once SF scores less, the team will loss. Rudy should stop SF's selfishness and develop their offense.

Great... great thread. It starts out perfectly w/ a great hook and insightful title, and then the posts by the Rudy realists, *fantastic*.

Git riddy of Rudy! Steve + Rudy - Cuttino, still equals a dumb Steve. Cuttino + Rudy - Steve still equals a stupid Cuttino. Parsimony demands we cut off the head of this inane beast and affix a brain.

Steve Francis isn't going to become proficient or grow 5" into his natural position just because Cuttino Mobley gets traded. Git riddy of Rudy! Every coach in and out of the league would love a tailor made (thanks Les) team such as ours.

    RUDY IS A GREAT COACH.

BUT IT IS TIME TO GO.

HE HAS BEEN HERE TOO LONG.

WHO SAYS A YOUNG COACH CAN'T WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP?

    LOOK AT JON GRUDEN!

AND LOOK AT BYRON SCOTT!!!! AND DOC RIVERS!!!! They haven't won, but they've been doing good. They are young...

We need a change. We need something new. It's not like our players will resign if Rudy quits...

again another loss....why does yao ming come into the game in the fourth quarter when there is just a few minutes left to play when he scores like 6 pts in a row. then he gets benched in the last minute when they had a chance to pull the game off against
    Chicago...??

what the hell is this coach doing..they will never make it to the playoffs with all the selfish guard play. makes your skin crawl watching them play against subpar teams.

Don't get rid of Rudy, this team needs some veteran leadership (and I am not talking about Mr. Injury - Glen Rice). Excluding Rice, there isn't one person on this team who has done anything in the playoffs and this will increasingly show as the season wears on. If the Rockets don't make the playoffs this year, there should be some serious discussions about replaicng Rudy, but I don't see Rudy leaving any time soon.

Dude, nobody wants to hear this common sense ****. Can't you see people are smelling blood here son? This team should be contending right now, regardless of what experts think. Don't try to bring things like reason into this.

Agreed, which coach out there would not want to take this job? The Rockets already have most of the peices in place to be the next great team. We just need a coach who has an IQ of higher than 1. Maybe after Shaq retires, Phil Jackson can come here.
