Nick wouldn't 100% commit that Caley is coming back, but it sounds like it's locked in and he's just trying to defer to Demeco to announce his staff.
If Caley isn't some special innovator or whisperer (or coveted future HC in waiting)... what are they doing? The O-line shuffling, the red zone awfulness, the pre-snap penalties (on basic formation stuff alone), the introducing new personnel/play packages as late as the 2nd round playoff game, the inability to acknowledge and adjust to your deficiencies (showcased by some of the forced play-calls as late as the playoffs). If anybody can name all the former Texans defensive coordinators during the Kubiak era (and whether any of them got another DC job), you'll get a prize... as it will soon be a similar trivia question with Demeco's OC's.
Richard Smith (been LBs coach for Panthers, Broncos, Chargers, Raiders, Colts & Bears this year. Did later get another DC job with Atlanta) Frank Bush (been LBs coach for Titans, Rams, Dolphins, Jets, Falcons & Titans again) Wade Phillips
We didn’t get a “McVay guy”. Got another Patriots reject. Caserio’s buddy. They fell for it hook, line & sinker. “Exciting times!” “Game plan offense!” Can we once and for all move on from all things Patriots? O’Brien, Easterby, Caserio, Caley, Popovich To think it probably came down to Jerrod Johnson or Caley.
Yes. The Texans are badly in need of the Wade Phillips equivalent on offense. But perhaps the coach and GM need to be "convinced" of this. History has repeated itself.
