Wait, so Morey lost the trade to join Ron Artest with Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady now? b****ing about Dontae Green and Omri freaking Caspri? Because the Rockets can't replace *those* monumental talents? Attention idiots who are whining about losing Kevin Martin and Luis Scola- Morey got those players for a bag of sunflower seeds and the corpse of Tracy McGrady. You think he can't find wing players and power forwards? Jesus. Look at the damn roster. I guess the "formula for success" for a lot of you idiots is for the Rockets to completely suck for a decade and hope it all pans out in the lottery. I mean, Sacramento is just an incredible success story, right? Ask people in Minnesota how their boatload of lottery picks worked out while you are at it.
It's the annual Morey beating. Morey has done more than enough to earn the benefit of the doubt. "In Morey We Trust" was created for the sole reason that he earned the fans trust by making questionable moves but with great returns. Even if you don't like the trade, you could at least wait until everything is settled before grading Morey's performance. You can't judge a book by it's cover, and you can't judge Morey's abilities by rumors alone. He's proven that he's one of the best GMs out there.
old bump Its kind of funny. The first chance Morey gets, he trades the guy that called him out about calling players assets. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=203888
Thats absolutely not what I am suggesting. Morey lost out on that trade because he took a risk, hoping that he could convince Artest to resign with us. His consolation prize was another Lakers leftovers in Ariza. Whom, ended up netting us Courtney Lee and luxury tax relief. No knock on Courtney Lee but, that is at best a lateral move in the big picture. So Moreys asset progression has taken us from Ron Artest in the summer of 2008, to Courtney Lee in December 2011. I dont think Morey is a bad general manager. Like I started that post, I am not ready to jump on the "Fire Morey" bandwagon. I understand he has face some serious hurdles with McGrady and Yao. Both of these guys were cornestone players who ended up being very injury prone. But how did this team get those guys? Through development of their assets in the draft. Francis was selected with the second pick in the 1999 Draft and packaged with Cuttino Mobley (another good pick by the Rockets), and others later on for Tracy McGrady + others. Yao Ming was the 1st pick in the 2002 Draft. My point is, you dont attract free agents, being a constant bubble team, and you also do not get to draft high enough to increase your odds of selecting a cornerstone player. There must be growing pains to redevelop any team. This team has been here before, after the glory days in the 90's. It is time to take that direction again. I thank you for your completly unneccessary and disrespecful response.
Morey is not a GM that can earn the trust from fans, at least not for the fans who love Ws. Not saying morey fans are losers, but they do not have the mindset for winning.
The precise criticism for the organization all these years were their refusal to tank games. So, I have no idea which ass you pulled that crap out of.
From my perspective, the main criticism of Morey has been "He lacks the people skills, so while he can collect assets, he can't negotiate to get a STAR!" Of course, now that that argument is dead and buried, I wonder what there is to complain about now.
Okay. Lets just say, hypothetically, the Rockets tanked and got the 2nd pick of the draft. Let's just say we have 2-3 more losing seasons and acquire even more picks. At what point is the team allowed to improve to mediocrity? Are we supposed to have a few high draft picks and suddenly win 50 games?
We should collect 4 top 5 picks and in the final suddenly. Thunders: #5 pick, #2 pick, #4 pick, #3 in 4 years. They got the clue... Rockets: #14 pick, #14 pick, #14 pick, #14 pick (pending) in 4 years. Rockets got the tread machine.
Or you could end up like the Kings, or the Wizards, or the Raptors. The Thunder are an extreme case with extreme luck.
It's sad. James Harden is 23 years old and is a top 5 scorer in the NBA and people still want to tank? This is the guy you tank for.
