Gimme a break, CAT makes too many mental mistakes period. Last night was the epitome of his inconsistency the PAST 5 YEARS. He can't HANDLE THE BALL!!! who else would LOSE the ball to SEAL A VICTORY?...then he tries to make it up by throwin a brick up...we were lucky DAMPIER missed those free bees to Bail out MOBLEY...and the guy is INCONSISTENT..he is not solid, he should just stick to defense and spot up 3s that's IT...he tries to do to many things outside his element ala SF..so sick of peeps defending INCONSISTENCY..he shouldn't even start, should be our 6 man if anything.
I was a bit annoyed with Yao on that play, actually, because he had the ball, was working it, and then passed it out to Mobley when he wasn't in a position to score. So Mobley took the ball and tried to make something happen. The play was called for Yao, he was the one with the hot hand, the game was close and time was running out: why didn't he try to make something happen instead of dumping it off to a defended teammate? What it looked like to me was Yao was being too passive at a time when aggression was needed. Mobley recognized that and, when Yao shrunk from the challenge, he took it up and did what he could. He happened to have missed the shot.
Ok. That's it. I'm tired of people defending Mobley because he hit the three or we wound up winning. The problem with us "winning" these games is that it perpetuates the thought and belief that it's okay to not run the offense efficiently. This is all about efficiency and percentages. Last night, and on nameless prior occasions, Mobley did not excute the play called. He took a bad shot, a selfish shot, against the direct orders of the coach. More pointedly, he failed to get the ball to the guy with the hot hand and low post position. The worst part of it is that he had the ball, looked in, waited and ignored Yao. It's not like he caught and reacted. He thought about it and consciously ignored Yao. It was an affirmative, conscious, bad decision. Why did he fould Damier right after the bad decision? Because he knew he made a mistake and was trying to make up for it. He didn't foul Dampier because he stopped and thought "Hmmm, Dampier is a low percentage shooter." I have never believed that Mobley could fit in the team concept. I sure wish he would because he is a tremendous talent, on both offense and defense. But, as JVG says, there are lots of talented players. The difference among teams in the NBA is willingness to play as a team and willingness to sacrifice. I generally try not to post like I'm speaking from the mouth of God. But in this case, I feel strongly about it. Mobley will not fit in and at some point, whether this year or next, will be traded for a power forward or a point guard. Francis, Pike, Jackson and Boki can handle all the SG and SF minutes and will play winning team ball. Let Mobley go to some crap team and run up his scoring.
You're right. It totally backfired too when Dampier stepped up and clanged iron, despite his impressive 52%. Yeah, like I said, giving dunleavy/richardson, whoever a clean look as time runs down with no chance to score again is a much more preferable option. Keep pumping bro.
I'm not sure what game you watched, but read the post above yours or go back and look at the tape. JuanValdez was absolutely correct. Yao had the ball, single coverage, started backing down Dampier, whom he had been torching, then inexplicably passed the ball back out for no apparent reason. But I guess you can blame mobley for that too.
It's not like it was an intentional foul, for god sake, and it's not like it was Calvin Murphy or Rick Barry that he was fouling. For Christ's sake. Mobley hit a big 3 at the end of the game, fouled a bad shooter in the end, Yao missed two huge free throws, and was a Mike Dunleavy jumper away from costing us the game. Mobley gets a "Fire Mobley!" thread. Predictable. But there's no "Fire Yao!" thread. Was there a "Hire Mobley!" thread after the Philly game? Look, I think he's stupid at times and desreving of criticism as well. But look at some of the stupid posts in this thread. First, the entire thread is exactly the kind of thread that Clutch has indicated should not be encouraged or posted AT ALL. Then, look at the one above that blames Mobley for shooting the last shot and not passing to Yao, RIGHT AFTER YAO INEXPLICABLY PASSED UP A SHOT AND THREW IT BACK OUT TO HIM. I don't want to have to defend him all the time, but I AM A ROCKET FAN. The Rockets won. We are 8-3. I am a happy camper. But inevitably (despite the fact that he hit a key basket), some ostensible Rockets "fan" decides to start up yet another "So and so sucks" b****fest thread. Please stop crapping on my parade and the guys who play for my team for like five seconds, please!!! You guys can turn this board into your own personal complaint box after they lose a game, which, beleive it or not, will indeed happen again this year, but please just stop b****ing for a little bit after a win, ok?
My boss was standing behind me and watching me for typing those replys, ( I didnt notice! Damn, fire Mobley, just fire him and my boss will fire me as well
What the hell are you talking about? Watch the tape. On the Rockets last full possesssion before it became a free-throw shooting contest, Yao PASSED UP the opportunity to go one on one with Dampier and just threw it back out with the shot clock running down. Of course a guard took a shot in this stituation. Yes, Mobley took some dumb shots earlier in the game. I didn't argue that, and have been quite specific that this is the play I was referring to, where another poster tried to pin the blame on mobley. I don't see where the disconnect is here.
I'm glad Mobley made that shot as last year, that wouldn't have happened...I can't say right at this point of the season I'm too upset to have the CAT playing for the Rox... I think JVG understands his strenghts and weaknesses and I believe the CAT is a hell of a lot better than last year form the shooting bricks mentality...
I especially liked when you turned a Kings vs. Mavs thread in the NBA dish forum last year, that mentioned the teams' defense into a rant on how Steve doesn't play defense.
This thread is absolutely absurd. Props to SamFisher for hopelessly trying to fight the wave of hating that is undeserved for Cat. Without him, there is no way we'd be 8-3, no way. 6-5 at best. There is no way you can get a player of his caliber, making his kind of money, that you could substitute for him and this team would be as good. Everyone makes mistakes, Steve and "always perfect" Yao.
We got LUCKY. Imagine playing the LAKERS we can't depend on missed free throws to WIN, that is a sorry way to win, especially to Golden State?? gimme a break this road trip is gonna put us in CHECK bigtime watch and you'll see. Im glad they won, just PISSED OFF at HOW..when are they gonna play team basketball consistently??? and MOT picked up where he left,...thinkin he's SIR CHARLES, sit down and warm up the bench, Braggs does a better job!
It's really amusing that it took you people this long to realize how stupid Mobley is. I've been saying for at least 3 years that the cat is a cancer to this team and what we is trying to accomplish. He is absolutely the worst decision maker on our roster hands down. All he does is pop shot after shot every night and neglects the pass on a consistent basis. For all you people who praise mobley for being a good shooter, he is in the frigging NBA. They should all be good shooters! There are other aspects of the game that are more important than shooting. Sure he will get hot every now and then, he shoots 100 times a game! I'm glad everyone is finally coming around and admitting that he just isn't what we need at all.
Actually, I do. It's commonly called "re-posting". The big man passes it back out to deepen your post position. The problem is that you need your perimeter players to pass it back to you.
Poor Yao, just as bad as Cat doesn't want to toss the pill to Yao, Yao knows if he kicks it back he'll never see it again unless he can get the rebound or catch up with the guy Cat turned it over to...
