me too. especially posters who post one sentence posts that criticize other posters for posting posts that actually have something to do with the subject of the thread instead of bashing. i dunno. maybe it has to do with a low basketball iq or something. lack of argument=lack of a point=lack of contribution. get it? got it? good.
The only thing negative I noticed about Cat Mobley in last nights Game was that he 'refused'to pass to an open Yao Ming calling for the ball . There is nothing new here to be considered! Its not NEWS.
Let's be a little more constructive and incisive about this. 1. Mobley is getting away with this selfish or unintelligent (you choose the word) play because we're winning. But JVG does not like it. Someone said it earlier - Mobley is the only one that has not adopted the concept of "sacrifice". 2. JVG is smart enough to know that right now, the team is winning and he needs a happy Mobley. He needs Mobley's scoring, even if fraught with bad decisions, until Yao can get his rhythm and learn to be more efficient. (On this latter poitn, I believe it is very tough for Yao to turn from a finesse player to a banger. He is not used to initiating contact as part of his shooting rhythym.) 3. But wait - - - Piatkowski is coming. Pike is arguably the perfect person to feed the ball to Yao. Mobley will get his minutes, but if he continues making these kind of decisions, his role will change and JVG will take decisionmaking power away from him. He will get his plays called, but his time on the floor with Yao will get limited. That much is clear to me.
Well, I love and hate Mobley. I think Mobley's game is a bit schizophrenic. I believe one night Mobley racked up 8 assists in helping us win. In last night's game, he tried his darn hardest (minus that 3 pt'r) to help us lose. In many ways, I think Mobley embodies the schizo character of the Rockets, especially last year. Still, I am not giving up on the guy. I hope another half season in Van Gumby's system will help the good Cat slay the bad Cat once and for all.
Mobley doesn't need to be fired, but he damn sure better get his act together. The guy has had off shooting nights the past few games and it is clear he is forcing it. I could not believe I was watching plays being called and him ignoring them for more difficult shots. When he let Yao post up for 3 or 4 seconds after making several shots in a row then drove left instead and took a falling away and to the left jumper with three guys in his face, I almost smashed my television. I got the sense that everyone on the floor was looking for Yao down the stretch EXCEPT Cuttino.
I think this is nothing new: 1) Mobley is talented 2) Mobley has low BBall IQ He fouled twice in the closing minutes, and nearly cost us the game. But he did make a crucial 3 pter. So it's a wash......for now. But in the long run, this will catch up to him/us. Against better teams with more poise that will punish us at the FT line after stupid fouls, we will go down. As long he keeps making shots outside the flow of the offense, as long as he keeps passing up Yao when Yao's hot or in good position, as long he keeps committing stupid fouls in crunch time....we will eventually lose. As good as a scorer he is, his inconsistent good attributes will eventually always lose out to his consistent bad attributes. And we will lose. He needs to smarten up. I, for one, hope Pike takes his minutes and makes Cat come off the bench. That should hopefully help him "get it". In fact, forget that. He needs to come off the bench, cause he would be much more valuable as the 6th man.
Mobley made several mistakes last night, including the obvious foul on Dampier under our basket with the Rockets up by 1, 18 seconds to go and us over the foul limit. That was the worst mistake at the worst time that you can commit. I called for the trading of Cat last season because he showed no improvement or willingness to improve at all up to that point. This season (and it is still early yet), it does look like Cat has improved some. He has a good game, and he can score. You can't expect him to completely changes his game, and stops all the bad tendencies over night !? As I give Yao time to change his finese game and become more aggressive, it's only fair that I give Cat a little more time to become less so.
Consider his payroll and his contribution to this team, I will more than happy to keep him for a long term People, get real, Yao is not the only option for the ball to pass to. Who ever can bring us 2 pts/3pts, pass to him (or even her )!
Really? Putting an awful foul shooter on the line with time left on the clock in a high pressure situation was a hideous mistake? So you'd rather the Warriors have another clean look from Dunleavy instead? Wrong. I would have intentionally fouled Dampier there.
i agree that cat should come off the bench once pike gets back. when you add up all cat's positive and negatives, i believe he's in the red. sure he can score, but he also costs us a lot of points with his bad shot selection, stupid fouls, and not getting the ball to the person who should have it. we should definitely keep him, but limit his play with our other scorers because they do not benefit from having him in the game at the same time.
Ding Ding Ding..we have a winner. It's become sure hell fire to state your opinion here these days despite the fact that the person might be right. There are far too many posters here trying to fulfil their fantasy of playing Moderator. The bottom line is that we are all passionate Rocket fans and this is a forum to express our views on our beloved team.
I wonder that when Mobley refuses to pass to Yao and jacks up the shot (like that leaning shot at the end of last nite's game), if Yao can just jump up, grab the ball, and go back up with a shot. The Mobley will credit for the assist.
Oh come on now, you are saying that it was not a mistake to foul any warrior's player with a 1 point lead and less than a minute to play? That is just not smart basketball, especially when our defense has been dominant this year. Sure, Dampier is a bad freethrow shooter, but you never know when someone's gonna step up and knock down 2. Horrible mistake.
Huh? The question is not whether Yao should be the only player to get the ball, but whether: 1. The Rockets should fully utilize the threat of Yao. 2. When Yao is open and Mobley is not, whether Mobley should pass the ball. and 3. When JVG calls a play for Yao, and Yao is open, whether Mobley should pass the ball to Yao. It seems the answer to these questions are all clear. Nothing you said was responsive to the problem we're discussing.
Check the title before u draw this conclusion! Fire Mobley! My answer is No! And there r 5 players on the floor and only one can have it at the moment. To me, among Cat/Steve/Yao, anyone are capable make the clutch shoot! Dont want to argue! B Ball is 5-men/team ball instead of one men ball. BTW, I am a Yao only fan and wish he can come to Toronto.
But it's still non-responsive to the thread title . Nobody's arguing for a one-man team. I've supported the Rockets since about 1984, but unfortunately... have been called a Yao-only fan recently on this board .
