To me that has little to do with anything.....yeah he played in Houston (largely insignifigant stint) but that doesnt change the fact that he borderline roots against the Rockets during ESPN telecasts of the games. He belittles and marginalizes the team any chance he gets in a way that is far beyond objectively assessing a team. So as far as i go he doesnt get a pass just because he wore a Rockets uniform.
ahahah this is exactly why. i am surprised there are jon barry supporters here. i would think that listening to a dude butcher your young big man's name would tick you off, as Rockets fans. at any rate, just having some fun, if you don't want to check out the site or sign the petition or whatever, is no big thing.
Because I have the ability to separate my opinions on somebody based on their works on and off the court . Jon Barry the basketball player was and always will be beloved, however I can guarantee that if his play on the court was comparable to his skill as a commentator, he WOULDN'T be beloved. He's awful as an analyst, and therefore he doesn't deserve to have the job. My loyalties don't extend to him as a television personality, and it's brutally obvious his loyalties don't extend to the Rockets as they pertain to his analysis of the team. Would I love to have a beer with the guy? Absolutely. Do I want him mucking up my game-watching experience? Absolutely not.
Why is he a Rockets hater? Did we treat him badly? I remember him being one of the coolest players on that 2005 team! He, along with Wesley, Sura, Padgett and Mike James made up the old guys with swag brigade hahaha.
Jon was a worker for us during that magical 04-05 season as part of that 3-point bombing squad with Bobby Sura, Mike James and David Wesley. He was so happy that season playing and winning with vets his age that he staved off retirement for one more season that sadly ended up being that injury plagued, lottery bound 05-06 season. to His dad worked here and his brother worked here too. You won't get much support.
Jon Barry is a joke!!!! On a serious note, he's terrible. So much condescension from such a scrub player. Worst broadcaster by far.
I don't think he particularly hates the Rockets, he is that way about every team and player in the NBA. He is a pretty joyless dude.
This might not be it, but during one of our games on ESPN he said that JVG and the Rockets waived him and after that he retired. I guess he equates the rockets with the end of his career? maybe he thought he had more in the tank.
