He may add himself in at the end but that little ego maniac blasts his players in the media EVERY change he gets.
JVG wouldn't be fired this season. Simply because there aren't any good replacement around at this point. But if the Rockets fail to reach the 2nd round of playoffs this year again, I'm pretty sure Les will start pulling strings.
I'm afraid now that JVG will resign like he did in NY. I see the playoffs as a very long shot at best. I hope I'm wrong and JVG stays and we make the playoffs....
**** sounds good to me.. man same **** always fire jvg.. wtf its only 16 games into the season, can ppl hav patience?? ya it looks pretty bad.. but giv it time.. maybe ur rite, maybe we need to fire jvg, but rite now we gotta wait and see wats gonna happen
I didn't say he hadn't included himself. But you can't say he doesn't point fingers on players performance. I give credit for him to admit his own fault. He is clearly saying that the players are not up to his expectations. Now if the players aren't playing as he wants, that's either because he didn't get the right players or he can't coach them. But it was he who picked the players. And it's his responsibility to coach them after he picked them.
Firing Gundy mid season without any clearly better candidates is too drastic. Let's just fire Ewing to send him a message. I love PJ and I would love to see Yao make some sweet high post passes off PJ's triangle offense. But it is unlikely that we can every pry PJ away from Jeanie Buss' love muscles, so we can probably forget that dream. I love to be wrong, though.
He's by far the most effective at it. This is pretty crazy, I agree Because he doesn't care about the game, the team, winning, or doing his job. For all his talent, he rarely makes more than a minimal effort in games and is absolutely embarassing with his level of execution. He's a rookie, and has to prove he won't make mistakes before he's given more freedom to run the show. The vast majority of our team has such slow footspeed and a lack of athleticism that staying in front of their man and rotating to help on switches is beyond them. Similar to above, no one can get past their man to draw the defense and create opportunities for open shots. Without Rafer or McGrady (at full capacity) there's no playmaker and no high percentage shots. Yao is doing what he can, but teams are literally able to triple and quadruple-team him without fear of being punished by the rest of the Rockets. Only three players have the ability to jump: Swift, Head, and Bowen. Swift doesn't even try, and Bowen gets boxed out easily. Head can only grab so many flying in from the side. Because you're better than Faker fans. We don't really have T-Mac. Yet. We have the CNT. Because once Les and CD hold an intervention and get it through to him that 10 grizzled vets on one roster won't work and we bring in real help to replace our retirement home residents, we'll be okay. JVG's philosophy grates a lot of fans, but it's the philosophy that wins championships. It's similar to SA's, only Pop has the willingness (capacity?) to teach younger players. Evan
I am baffled by this observation. If Stro was truly not concerned about winning, why did he give up bigger contracts with other teams and sign with Rockets? Sure he needs to be self-motivated, as every NBA player should, but I surmise his seeming "lack of interest" has a lot to do with the poor coaching from JVG. Some guys may be scolded without hurting too much of their self-esteem, some however need to be encouraged more often than not. Stro could be the latter type. IMO, JVG failed Stro in no small way.
Watch him closely in games, even when he's not on the court (need to be at the Toyota Center). He's a classic example of a guy joking around while the team is getting blown out. When we start getting behind, does he kick it up to another gear? He doesn't even get himself out of neutral most of the time. I don't really care about his motivations for signing with us. All I know is what I see. And I see a guy that sleeps well at night after a horrendous showing and loss. Evan
He was drafted by the Grizz he's been losing for a long time I'm sure he feels right at home with the Rockets this year. JVG does not use Swift's strenghts. He never cuts to the basket and fast break points are almost unheard of. Swift can past the ball in the paint kind of like Yao before JVG. Give Swift another year with JVG and he'll lose his passing ability too. As you can tell I'm kinda down on JVG right now.
After hearing today that the Rockets (JVG/CD) contacted Sprewell, I am in meltdown. This is over the top, the final straw. I am reviving this thread because I want to sign on. Win or lose, from here on, I will be campaigning to see JVG removed as coach and replaced with someone who has fresh ideas and will go after young, smart, athletic players. The dour, dreary, negative, beat down, overly conservative, retiree brand of basketball must end in Houstion. The Rockets are not a retirement home for old Knicks. The team needs a fresh start and they need it NOW!
