This magic thread should be a sticky until our wish get granted OR Rox turns it around again, like last time
Sorry, Anderson and Alston *are* older guys. The league average this year is 26.7. Rafer Alston is 29. Derek Anderson is 31. Yao Ming is 25. Jon Barry is 36. Dikembe Moutumbo is 39. Bob Sura is 32.
it very obvious about the last three....alston is very useful if JVG will let him do his thing...the jury is still out on DA. Yao and Tmac= 2 down one to go
I love the school of thought that all of this is JVG's fault. we all know young players could never get injured.
Well McGrady is 27...so I guess he's old too. Yao, McGrady, Stro, Head, Alston are all young. DA and Bowen are middle-aged (in NBA terms). But none of those guys are old.
McGrady is not a "younger guy." Given his years in the league, he probably has 3-5 years left near his prime. I would define the average league age as "middle aged" +/- two years. More than that qualifies as "older."
You may be righter than you realize. My theory is that kids that come right out of HS into the NBA do not enjoy the career length (say to 35) that the players can look forward to that spend 3-4 years in college. Because the physical stress is so much greater in the NBA. Almost 4 times the season length, more physical play, etc. is responsible for them fading earlier. I pulled this theory out of my b*tt but it kinda' makes sense.
You could be right, but I see no signs of Kobe or KG slowing down. It may be that McGrady's body can't handle it.
It's a mixture of bad luck and blame. Young players get injured, but not as often as JVG's preferred crowd. You've got a point - but don't be disingenuous.
I just didn't need to hear/see that because if the Rockets don't win and win big I may have to go without electricity for awhile.
