Kareem was strong as an ox up top, especially in the 70's. In the 80's he dropped some weight to run with showtime though
How about not getting a big man coach, how about just letting yao ming be yao ming. Did Hakeem have a big man coach?? no...did shaq have a big man coach??..no did wilt, kareem, laimbeer, walton, robinson or any other dominate force have a big man coach? no....so why does yao need a coach? let yao be yao!!
actually Moses Malone took Hakeen down to Fonde and worked him like a rib until Hakeem [then akeem] GOT IT Shaq had Hakeem Most big men had Pete Newell Rocket River
It is like having a talented programmer; . . . but not teaching the full programming language. . . instead letting him find out on his own . .. . he may get it. . but for quicker results you need to help him along Rocket River
Uhh, no. Shaq was putting on dominating performances before he even met Hakeem Olajuwon, and he played him 2x a year and for four measly games in the playoffs one year until he came to LA. While he might have looked up to him, he was about as much his teacher as Shaq is to Yao now. And if by "most" you mean "some" w/regard to Newell you are right.
Is this a Laker fan? Anyway, the one thing Kareem does have going for him is his prior work with another Chinese superstar:
i would like to see kevin mchale leave minnesota and join us. he could help all our big man, not just yao....then agai, i would like a lot of things that just aint gonna happen...
He would only leave if he could become our GM as well. As much as i would like to see CD get canned i doubt that happens.
I think the result of this poll speaks for itself. Less than 5 % wish to retain Ewing on the Rockets. Ewing is not a Rocket, has never been one, and will never be one. He is just a guy collecting a paycheck because the coach is his buddy.
Originally posted by Sir Jackie Chiles He is just a guy collecting a paycheck because the coach is his buddy. Probably on basketball common sense or on the Rockets basketball games.
Probably not. One with basketball common sense would know that Ewing as a player had a reputation as being the hardest working guy on the team for a long time, and was notorious for going all out even in pregame warmups. Now, who knows whether or not he kept that work ethic in coaching, but as has been stated many times - random german dudes probably don't know enough about what goes on at a closed door practice to make that judgment.
That is true, we don't know what goes on behind practice to know. Thats why we they play games and why we watch them. Its either one of these two problems... Problem one - Yao is not listening to what the coaches are saying. If we know (the bbs forum) what Yao's weaknesses are (ex. weak hands, foul prone) then the coaches have to know and they have to let Yao know. If JVG is the general as everyone says he is...then he is letting Yao know. Yao is just not listening. Problem two - The coaches are not making a big deal about it and nobody is showing him how to get better at his weaknesses. JVG is not doing his job and neither are his assistants. They are just letting Yao do what he wants and ignoring his problems. Like you said, we don't know. I just know, someone has to click to Yao, or Yao has to click himself. I know Ewing was an outstanding competitor. I hope he can instill that in Yao. Whether he is trying or not...we don't know. If Yao could learn half of Ewing's skills, he would be an incredible center.
Good to see that you can assess a probability, though. Understandable, since NYC is closer to closed door practices in HOU than Germany is, right?
