I don't see what the point is in firing Ewing when you have no idea of what he actually does. It's like calling for the head of the guy who gets all the prep video together because the players weren't "ready" for their opponents.

As for Kareem ... please, he's as much of a coaching unknown as Ewing(at least people wanted Ewing around tho), but hey, he did work wonders for Kandi right?

Kareem began playing against NBA bigs while in JHS, and for years thru UCLA. He understood the game he was entering in the NBA.

Yao looks confused -- overcoached. He needs a communicator not another set of mixed signals.

I want the one who can make full use of Yao's advantages and avoid his weakness.

Probably because he has no interest in even living in the United States anymore, let alone coaching for the Rockets.

    Good point.

Can anyone explain to us what a typical practice session is like between Yao and Ewing?

    Thanks.

What Ewing has improved directly or indirectly:
    Stamina
    Strength
Leaning shoulder toward the paint instead of baseline
    Turnaround Jumper closer to basket
    Backing in
    Gathering for jump hook
    Taking Charge
    Extending hands toward passing target
    Establish position on block
    Runs court instead of loping
    Baseline spin move
    Driving to the basket
    recognizing the rushing double/triple team
    Fouls

    What has improved Slightly:
    Leadership and Fire
    Hands
    Finding the open man
    Altering shots
Position between the ball and the rim
    Balance

    What has decreased Slightly:
    Free Throw shooting
    Shot Blocking
    Set Shot from 10-15

What Ewing needs to work on:
    Gathering for dunk
    Keeping Ball Higher
    Defensive and Offensive Rebounding
    Clutch Shooting
Getting back to man after double
    Getting beat back door
    Warding off quicker players
    Snatching the ball
Making Jump Hook (technique is fine)
    athleticism
    using backboard
    More Elbows

What Yao seems to have Lost:
    Up an Under move

Summary: Given how raw Yao was coming into the League, I think Ewing has given Yao the skills to become a great player. He improved most of his weaknesses in the post. Most importantly improving his ability to eastablish position. If Yao could just make the jump hook he would need no other shot. But his technique is good. He just needs to make it. And Ewing was the master at it. So Ewing has done his job on the offensive. On Defense Yao biggest weakness is rebounding. He does block out. But just doesn't move to or snatch the ball. Major weakness he needs to work on with Ewing. But he has not gotten worse. He just hasn't improved. But defensively Yao has show good positioning in general and has handled the pick and roll as well at a big man could do. Even guarding Iverson successfully a few times. So far I'd give Ewing an A on Offense and a C on Defense for a lack of improvement. That gives Ewing a B overall.

I once got drunk and accused Slovenian prime minister Janez Jansa of having an inferior trade development strategy to his predecessor Anton Rop. Well, it wasn't the right thing to say in certain company.
