They seem to be settling in already that this is the true Rodgers outside Coors Field. Though non-Coors Rodgers still is outhitting Dubon this year. They should probably give Rodgers more chances still
I quoted myself because I was updating my thoughts on Espada tinkering with the lineup successfully in the days that had passed. I supposed I could have started my second post with “Update on the above…”. But I thought it was obvious what I was doing
I don’t understand this line of thinking. We are talking about Game 30 of 182. Winning or losing isn’t a big deal, except it builds our first three game win streak of the year. A win against Seattle or rangers would mean much more, and even then at game 30, not so much. I could make an argument that if we were in the midst of a multi game slide, then we need the W to break the slide and frustration. Like last year’s disastrous start … early season games took on an outsized importance because we were digging ourselves such a huge hole. And that caused Espada to chase wins, burn leverage relievers and such in the desperate hope of stopping the bleeding. I don’t think Espada should just tank this game and I was annoyed at him for burning Hader last night. But if he chooses to rest some veterans because it is a day game before Thursdays day off, sure that’s fine (unless I had tickets to the game, in which case I’m a selfish b*stard and would be annoyed).
Gotcha. I always just edit my post so I didn't realize it. Anyways I did agree with a lot of your points.
My hope is that no more than 1 starter gets a day off at a time ( I don't consider Meyers/Chas, Rodgers/Dubon starters) except sometimes Diaz will need a day off the same day one of the others simply because of the nature of the catcher position. Also, by giving a guy a day off today, maybe he won't need a day off in 2 weeks. I'm just trying to stay positive while watching for the lineup I know is coming.
Every week, Espada puts himself further and further onto my " He is just not the right manager" list. It's a philosophical issue now - He gambles on very low odd bets that JAG relievers can give him more than 3 outs, hoping the bullpen is in better shape for tomorrow. He didn't learn in Seattle and I don't think he learned yesterday. You have a closer and a set up man. It's very straight forward how to use them. You have one or two semi-trusted guys that you use in the later innings when the rest situation and score dictate it but never for more than 3 outs. You have 1-2 guys who are sacrificial lambs that pitch early, and/or when a game is out of hand. They can pitch however many outs you can get from them. Then you have 2-4 guys who pitch in middle-late innings when the leverage and/or semi-trusted guys aren't available and you need to count outs to get through a game. These guys never ever get more than 3 outs because every pitch is a throw of the dice. In fact, I'm gonna start calling Taylor Scott "pips" Dana Brown needs to make Josh Miller the assistant manager in charge of pitching decisions and take away any and all pitching decisions from Joe Espada. Or just fire Espada and replace him with a 35 year old guy who played baseball his whole life but wasn't good enough to get out of A ball and got 3 degrees from M.I.T.
Please...I really can't take Espada or his decisions anymore. He's so damn predictable...he will always punt the last game of a series. Plays his jags because he sees himself in them or something.
It's to the point I can't take this team seriously due to Espada being manager. It's tough having an idiot over decision making. He seems like a nice guy but he's a turnoff as manager. I hope the front office isn't content with settling with this guy. Espada just seems like he doesn't know what the **** he is doing and doesn't deserve to be a manager of an mlb team, especially one who still has aspirations of contending.
They're not firing him unless the team is almost dead last in the division and completely misses the playoffs.
I dont blame Espada playing JAGS on an early Sunday against the worst team in the league. If you cant rest main guys there, when CAN you rest them? Its how he over-thunk it the previous series on player usage, wasting setup man & closer with big leads who "technically are on regular usage schedule". The "off day coming" for some reason making him do excess strategizing. I'm not a baseball guy tbh, but thats actually the point. Just in toss in the low leverage JAGS with a big lead like I thought you're supposed to do, right lol? Now the main options are unavailable to use in a pinch the next series anyway. If I'm novice seeing it, not a good reflection on the manager
Right, which is why it's becoming hard to take this team/organization seriously. The standards have steadily been going down. Espada just isn't good enough and this roster isn't good enough to overcome him like in 2022. The team isn't bad enough to bottom out so it's likely mediocre madness under Espada. I hope I'm wrong but Espada just isn't it.
