He's been the OC for 1 year there... again, book is written on him?

I would be fine with Bienemy, but I don't think it is a slam dunk. That system can get a QB beat up just as easily as running the QB too much. Nobody on here is arguing that we should get Roman and use the exact same system as the Ravens currently do. He adapts his system to his QB, just like he did when they switched from Alex Smith to Kaepernick. That's kind of the whole point.

Alex Smith is what you want? 17/5?
Who did better when he went to KC?

He’s been there since 17 as senior offensive assistant, assistant head coach and OC. They brought him there to be a coach for Lamar.
And again he did tailor to his QBs, but with minimal success and still the same type of passing game. Zone reads and single side of the field throws.

He was QB coach in Houston though with a similar athlete to Kap

Reid's shadow is why I'd be hesitant to hire Bienemy. Roman is intriguing (didn't realize he had a decent stint here already) because he's not tied to an all-time head coach and he's done it a variety of ways and with a variety of QBs. And he's the coach that developed Mark Andrews in Baltimore, too.

He hasn’t done it in a variety of ways though. QBs? Yes.
His system is very simple and pretty much the same with a few wrinkles depending on the athlete level of the QB

I do think Watson would perform well in Romans system. I just don’t think it’s set up for SuperBowl success

Do you remember what everyone said about Andy Reid just last year, two years ago when he lost in the title game again, what the hallmark of his career was up to that point?

Alex Smith who was garbage to that point and finally learned a good system and became a viable QB under Roman??

Watson has way more talent than Smith.

Do you realize a big part of the reason for the struggles here may very well be that the damn offense is too complex?

There is nothing wrong with simplifying the game and making it easier on your QB. Yeah, the Ravens lost to the Titans in the playoffs. Lamar made some bad throws and was picked off 3x. That's not on Roman. Lamar had 500 yards of total offense... they turned the ball over, defense couldn't stop a nosebleed, and they got beat.

This is true, but he’s also been widely considered one of the best offensive minds for a long time. Roman hasn’t

I agree, simplifying is needed. Not dumbed down though.
The offense is predictable and can be game-planned for. (Which is what I mean for the playoffs) Have to have another way to beat teams when they know what’s coming.
    Same thing as Rockets imo

I think that has more to do with Reid mostly doing his damage as a HC vs Roman kinda flying under the radar.

I also think Roman may not have the demeanor that I would want in a HC. He may very well be a lifetime coordinator, but I still find him intriguing.

One last thing... I personally LOVE offenses that run the air out of the damn ball. Everyone wants to see air raid, but I love seeing what Baltimore is doing, what SF did. They are still extremely efficient at throwing the rock too, but nothing is more demoralizing for a defense than not being able to stop the run. So consider me biased in that regard.

Don’t get me wrong, I love a strong run game. Just don’t want it to be predicated on the QB running the ball heavily.
Opportune times? Hell yeah but get down and don’t get put in harms way.
The passing game is a little too simplistic imo, QB friendly to run for sure. But can also be at their detriment, once figured out there is no back up plan.

Honest question: Do you think BoB runs DW4 too much?

    Designed runs? No
Forced runs because of protection or no one open? Yes

Agreed. I only bring it up because in comparison, Watson is pretty much running the identical amount per game Kap did under Roman and McNabb the first few years under Reid. Interestingly enough, Russell Wilson had more carries than any of them when he took the Seahawks back to the SB.

Not advocating for Roman but he’s also working with what he has. Kap, Tyrod Taylor and Lamar have never been the most polished pocket passers. Running Lamar as much as they do isn’t ideal but the kid is so dynamic that I think you roll with it. Think the key will be to teach him to slide and avoid the big hits.

With Watson, would Roman run him 11-12 times a game? Probably not. 5-6 times a game like he did with Kap? Probably more than likely which is what he’s running now anyways.

Yeah I’m not opposed to QBs making plays with their legs, I just wouldn’t want a ton of the QB draws up the middle. Would want it to happen organically I guess.
Like Wilson now, pass first then pick up the chunk yards and get out of bounds.

300 pages in, and this opinion is still as strong as ever. Perhaps the strongest it's ever been.
