I think it comes down to who really made the decision to get Osweiler. If it was OB, well you just kind of ****ed yourself over on that one. Goodbye. If it was McNair/Smith, then OB probably actually deserves credit for squeezing out 6 wins with a shitty QB he doesn't really want to be playing.
BOB's modus operandi is to switch QBs when things are going well. The fact that he hasn't leads me to believe that Brock was forced on him and he wants whomever made the call (over him) to look bad so they are gone. If they don't get fired (so BOB can get more control) then BOB will skip town for another job because it Brock was Smith's guy he should be fired yesterday. Of course it starts up town and the McNair's for years have rewarded the wrong guys and why Smith still has a job is inexcusable. He should have been fired with Kubes. The one thing I will say over the last few weeks is it "seems" BOB isn't has fired as he usually is. He is much more resigned, looks like he's playing out the season. Looks like he's checked out.
So is the problem the Coach, the QB or both? The offense was so so predictable and the Chargers Coach knew it... He had 8 men in the box waiting on the run and then dropped back in coverage on 2nd down and then pressed on 3rd down... The Texans never changed their ways or adjusted... The QB missed a lot of receivers and his reads were off... But if the offense were to change up and maybe go deep on 1st and throw more on first that would help... Play more unpredictable.. T_Man
Came here to post this. It's almost like he knows if it comes down to him or Smith, he knows he can't win. So he's just on automatic pilot. Total speculation on my part obviously, but it wouldn't surprise me to know that's what's going on behind the scenes. BOB is more suited for college. I think he would be a great hire at ND, frankly. The NFL just isn't for him unless Tom Brady is playing QB.
It's simple, fire both Bo'B and R. smith. Then have bobby McNair sell the team. As a bonus we cut/waive/trash/trade Brock osweiler
If Brock was exclusively Smith's guy, it would seem BOB benching him would send a pretty deafening message to McNair that he needs a new GM. No, my guess is that the moment BOB benches Osweiler, he's done and he knows it. He's a no-win situation. Hopefully, they were equally responsible for Osweiler and McNair will make both of them pay. Man, the thought of another coach being fired - but not Smith - is so depressing.
disagree you with you there... by continuing to trot out brock, Bob gives mcnair no choice but to reevaluate smith's role with this organization, assuming brock was smith's and/or mcnair's call. by most accounts savage was Bob's pick - he gains nothing by trotting him out there and risking him failing as well. if that happens both he and smith are likely (hopefully) out of a job. anyone can see that this team is going nowhere with brock at qb this year. if Bob really had little to do with the brock signing AND he's interested in staying in place + gaining more control of the FO going into next year, he absolutely let's brock play out the rest of the season. that's the real leverage play here.
If he benches Brock, Smith and others can say he didn't give him a chance which might save Smith's job. If he rides him out the entire season then it is clear that Smith screwed up and should be fired which is exactly what I think BOB wants. He wants to tell McNair, "see I told you so." Of course this is all speculation because we don't know the truth about who really picked Brock. My gut feeling, it was Smith because he's all about Denver sloppy seconds. Always has been. I really do hope Smith is fired because McNair's old staff just won a superbowl and the only two differences are players and Elway of which Elway is responsible for. I'm not an Elway worshiper by any means (a little overrated imho) but he's head and shoulders above Smith regarding talent evaluation and building a roster. A roster that won a SB with our shitty coaching staff. If that doesn't convince you, nothing will.
