Everybody leaks... you're a little clueless about this process if you honestly think that every leak is from BOB. Teams routinely link interest in head coaches. The The Texans were a leaking sieve when Kubiak was here (and ultimately fired)... and BOB was immediately linked to the Texans job... but I'm sure you'll say BOB was responsible for that as well, and somehow incepted McNair/Smith into hiring him.
The amount of leaks (which are like 90% spinning O'Brien positively) isn't normal. At one point McNair made a comment about not wanting anymore, and it stopped only for a little while. This nonsense including constant shots at the GM does not normally happen
Just like you say, you blame BOB for hand picking those garbage QB's. Fortunately Rick Smith stopped listening to BOB and went out and got Watson or the team would have a fairly dim future. I blame BOB for being a terrible judge of talent on offense, I blame BOB for misusing talent (like using Lamar Miller as if he was a power back), I blame BOB for being a terrible play caller, I blame BOB for essentially bringing nothing of value to a team. If he's fired, those are the reasons, not because he can't get along with the GM that just managed to get him a potentially elite franchise QB. BOB has a long history of being worthless, yet fans defend him anyway for some strange reason, that's how you end up with mediocrity. What benefit does the team have in bringing back an incompetent head coach?
I guess one final thing, the leaks alone are reason to fire BOB. He just constantly tries to throw the franchise under the bus to try and excuse him being worthless as a head coach and that's not something anyone should put up with.
I think you’re just reading too much into it and believing what you want to believe. Basically, you’re exactly the demographic that gets all panty~wadded at media reports, hence why all parties will continue to push agendas via the media. The Texans had leaks when they got Ed Reed. The had leaks when they fired Kubiak. They had leaks linking them to BOB. They’ll have leaks long after he’s gone on to another team.
I usually ignore most reports, it's mostly bs I just think it's funny how all these anonymous sources want to talk about how awesome OBrien is and how nothing is his fault
If you don’t believe every top NFL insider, ignore them all. Again, i’m sure the clutchfans brigade, with John McLain guiding them, has more insight on it. It’s funny that some here don’t ignore the negative BOB articles and continue to bring those up as gospel. Again, those that are easily swayed in their bias via the media fit the exact demographic for those who leak.
I ignore them all. There don't seem to be any good NFL insiders. My negativity on O'Brien has been based on roster moves and coaching decisions
And yet you are very concerned with what they say, and where they get their info. And its reaffirmed when you see a negative article about him that you subsequently reply to or post about... which basically is feeding into what you want to hear/read about.
The fact that they both could not find a way to make it work is reason enough to fire both of them. The Texans are purposefully built to be "cloak and dagger" with no publicly defined responsibilities. This is not the plan for success. Someone must be accountable. So when the plan fails, fire all involved and restructure. They need to find a coach and GM that share a vision for how to maximize the best years of what might be the best young QB in the NFL. Because of how they are nebulous and insulated... both need to go. Start over with a defined Deshaun Watson plan and let's get this Super bowl team going. I would lob a phone call to Dabo Swinney (just 1 example) and look for a young GM thats willing to commit to building the O & D line so our greatest remains protected.
Im concerned about articles that are obvious lies, ie O'Brien is going to be the #1 coaching candidate if he's fired and like 10 franchises would hire him immediately. Or lies that OBrien doesn't have any input on the roster. I'm calling that stuff out because it's spin from O'Brien that can hurt the Texans if it convinced them to keep him and give him more power. Which I'm guessing is the real motive behind his media minions leaking. Otherwise what those guys say is irrelevant
So basically, you're concerned about articles that don't support YOUR preconceived bias' or ideas on what is actually happening. I'm not sure why you don't call out the countless other spin articles that blame him for everything. And if you honestly think the Texans decision groups are as easily swayed by the media as some of their fans are.... there really is no point in you continuing to support this franchise. If you're honestly worried that articles by blowhards will "convince the Texans to keep him and give him more power"... you're actually part of the problem of why minions from all groups, on all teams, leak information.
What spin articles claiming anonymous sources leak against O'Brien? Can you point to examples? Because I can link to a ton spinning for O'Brien. And yes remember when the Texans hired O'Brien? He was supposedly the most coveted coaching prospect even though he was only OC at New England for 1 year and was nothing special at Penn State? Sounds familiar... I'm also talking about it because...well this is a forum where we talk about sports stuff
By Aaron Wilson, Houston Chronicle O'Brien is entering the final year of his contract in 2018. If O'Brien becomes available through a firing - O'Brien has stated he won't quit - or via a trade, which would be a complicated scenario that would involve a hefty amount of draft-pick compensation, he would arguably become the top free agent coach on the marketplace with several franchises interested in acquiring the former New England Patriots offensive coordinator and Penn State coach. ... It would be an ideal time for O'Brien to become a free agent because industry sources predict so many head-coaching positions will be available in this hiring cycle. "I think Bill is an excellent football coach," said former Texans and Washington general manager Charley Casserly, an NFL Network analyst. "I think if he were a free agent, he would have a job before he left the building and got home." O'Brien won two division championships with stopgap quarterbacks and is 31-32 overall, including a 4-11 mark this year during a season in which the Texans have lost standouts like quarterback Deshaun Watson, defensive end J.J. Watt and outside linebacker Whitney Mercilus to season-ending injuries. Star players, including Watson, wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins and outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney, have enthusiastically endorsed O'Brien and say they want the hard-nosed coach back for 2018. The Texans have endured a rough year, including experiencing Hurricane Harvey. "OB can flat-out coach," said an NFL executive, who asked not to be identified when speaking about another team's coach. "I would have him on a very short list of guys I would want to talk with right away if we were in the market for a coach. When Watson was healthy, they had it rolling. When he got hurt, they just weren't the same team. "What he did with Watson this year and previously with Tom Brady is impressive and I've heard good things about him as a leader. It will be interesting to see what happens with them." ... Inside the Texans' locker room, O'Brien has strong support from his players. They've bought into his style and he's made strides in the past few years to build his relationships with players. "He's very competitive, he loves football," Texans veteran linebacker Brian Cushing said. "I think he treats the guys fairly. He's a player's coach, so there's a bunch of things that obviously we enjoy about him and being with him. He's a very good coach and I think every person will attest to that and agree with me." In his second Pro Bowl season under O'Brien and leading the NFL with 13 touchdown catches, Hopkins definitely wants the coach back. "Bill's a great guy, great coach," Hopkins said. "Everybody in this locker room loves him, so why not?" ... Smith has an extremely close relationship with McNair and his son, Texans vice chairman and chief operating officer Cal McNair. A member of the NFL competition committee, Smith is in his 12th season as general manager and seventh as executive vice president of football operations.
"I thinkif he were a free agent, he would have a job before he left the building and got home." This is what I'm talking about. Clearly false. And coming from Casserly lol. He's been an analyst for a long time but I can't remember when he's broken anything
You really are grasping now... We all know you don't like him, but it means jack squat in terms of what people in football think about him and why insiders do largely support him.
BoB has become the new Jeff Fisher. He gets a lot of credit for doing nothing. You can complain all you want that he never had a QB ... but that's because he claimed he could win with his retread New England QBs. If you're hired to a 2-14 team, you don't go in thinking "hey, let me wait until year 4 of my 5 year contract to get a QB" intentionally - he did it because he overestimated his QB-whisperer reputation. The team has won what it did largely due to defense, which has little to do with him. Outside of Watson, the offense has progressively gotten worse - meaning that he kept choosing players that were worse than the previous ones while thinking they would be better. What does that say? Beyond that, if you believe BoB, then after every game, he says the coaching sucked and needs to be better. And then it's just as bad the next week. Why shouldn't we just believe it when he repeatedly tells us his coaching is terrible week after week?
