You mean when Brown stole a leverage reliever with an additional year of control for a bust of a 1st rd pick who was stuck in AAA and has the ceiling of an average back up catcher?
Lee was our fallback catcher in case of injury to Diaz or Maldy. A crtical piece to have available in the play offs even if you never have to call on them.
But if Maldy or Diaz got hurt, the other would become the everyday starter. That means Brown would be much more likely to bring up Salazar (who I understand they are very high on) than Lee anyway, and if they did bring up Lee he would sit all but 1 game per week. The bullpen needed Graveman much much more than the team needed it's 4th string catcher
Graveman is a fourth or fifth relief pitcher, Lee will be a starting catcher for the next five years, just not for us. Brown is a rookie GM who made a massive overpay for a reliever. It does not bode well for the 23 deadline. I hope for the best as always.
You truly are Blind Hog. Lee was never going to start for us. He hasn’t proved a damn thing and the organization did not think that highly of him. It is clearly not a gigantic over pay and it fills an immediate need.
Are we taking about the same player here? Lee doesn’t have even look like he belongs in the league as a backup and you are talking about starting LOL. At age 25, his window is closing fast.
As usual we don't agree. I simply don't think Lee has that potential. We should mark this page.you say Lee will be a starting catcher for the next 5 years? I don't think he starts 350 games, has a single 3 WAR season, or 12 WAR total in the next 5 years.
He is not the same pitcher he was when last he was with us. He will have to improve his performance dramatically to be any more than that this season.
Except for a couple of bad outings, he's been a very solid high leverage guy. Kinda like what Pressly has been this year, only Graveman has had terrible defense behind him.
The good: Since July 1st, Yanier has played 4 more games and had 20 more PA than Maldy. Of course much of that is atcDH and Maldy is still starting 70% of games. The Bad: also since July 1st, 4 of the 9 players who have played the most have an OPS of under 600. Dubon has the 4th most PA and is always put in the leadoff spot despite an OB% of .232 and OPS of .488. Julks has the 7th most PA and is put in the DH spot frequently despite a .227 SLG and .506 OPS. He has played in 93% of the games. Meyers hasn't been gang busters but has an OOS 156 better than Julks and he has played 9 fewer games with 39 fewer PA. In the past 3 weeks it's 6 games w/ 23 fewer PA despite an OPS of .830 while Julks has .262. The Good: the past 3 weeks: Chas, Yordan, Tucker, Altuve, and Bregman all have OPS over 1.000. The bad: Pena, Julks, Dubon, and Maldonado are all among the 9 players with most PA and have OPS under 550.
