He also signed Neris, got Graveman for us. Maton and Diaz for Straw may turn out to be an all-time trade if Diaz becomes the best hitting catcher in the MLB if your buddy would ever develop him as a catcher. He got Mancini and Vazquez just so Dusty could sit them in favor of his besties. Talk about revisionist history.
Except for Diaz, he did nothing for young talent. 2 rentals last year...fine. They were gone after the WS. Diaz is ONE player. Neris was a good pickup. His job, was to restock the minors. AAA is empty. That is the problem
If there is a ding on Click that can be drawn from this year’s team, it is that he botched the upper level pitching depth, although I am very hesitant to really pin that on him. Houston opened the season with this AAA rotation: France: solid Solis: Bust Murray: Bust Tamarez: Bust Whitley: Bust Dubin: bust Hansen: bust Endersby: bust Whitley, Dubin, Tamarez, Murray, and France were all on most offseason Astros Top 30 prospect lists, and only France has panned out. That reflects pretty poor development on the Click regime. Of course, the AAAA guys Brown has brought in (Garcia, McGowin, Allgeyer) haven’t done squat either.
And I’m ok with Dusty defending him. He’s supposed to be building his guys up and instilling confidence. What happens behind closed doors can and should be a little different imo. No one is happy with how Montero is throwing but blasting him in the media won’t help.
Click got a bad rap as far as performance goes. He was handicapped by loss of draft picks and COVID canceled a season of international signings and limited 1 draft to 5 rounds. The 2021 and 2022 drafts both look to be solid. He got himself fired, but history could show him to be very good over his 3 seasons. 12 of the top 30 prospects at mlbpipeline are from Click's 3 drafts. 13 of Fangraphs top 38 are from the same drafts.
Pretty hard to re-stock the minors after losing a boat load of top picks and still win a World Series. You are being very harsh on the job Click did. His draft last year looks to be one of the best for a while. Of course, we won’t know that for a year or two. By all accounts he got fired for not signing Contreras. Turns out he was right about that one.
Maton was a pretty good pickup too, and so was Dubon. Click did a really solid job and won a WS for his efforts. Not Luhnow good but still very good. The juries still out on Brown. Hopefully he can make 2-3 difference making moves.
Click was a good GM. Never shoulda been canned. That was Crane being stupid. He had a good GM who was doing good things. The owner ****ed the team with that move
I was happy but not overwhelmed by Click Made some good moves but also had some stinkers - like the 2020 draft. He did good enough but not Luhnow level. Then again who is. We have no idea how Brown will do. He has not been here for any important time frames or events yet.
Dusty trying so hard to perverse the bullpen ends up blowing in his face once again. We're going to end up having to use more of their arms in the extra innings anyway..if we don't lose the game before that..... This has happened repeatedly...
I've said this before last year. Dusty loves to get the pitcher through Five innings to preserve their chance of getting a win instead of prioritizing the team getting away. Why do starters always have to give up six plus runs before he pulls the plug
"Then, as the Reds drifted, then nose-dived late in the year, Baker insisted there was no need for urgency."
What type of manager cares about letting his starter qualify for the win when risking a loss for the team as a whole?
