Also, the Reds made the playoffs in 3 of Dusty's 6 years. And then fired him and immediately sucked again, finishing 4th or 5th in their division each of the following 6 years. They've won 90+ games 3 times in the last 23 years; all were under Dusty. They have made the playoffs 4 times in the last 27 years - 3 of those were in Dusty's 6 years. They also won 97 games the year that article was written and won their division.
Say what you will, but he came up huge in the World Series and he deserved to play opening day. That was a slap in the face. Not playing him now when he has better numbers is different altogether.
Why? He went 4-18 with 4 singles and 10 strikeouts in the WS. He had an amazing defensive play, but that doesn't automatically guarantee you a starting job the following year. He was also really bad against righties last year and opening day was against a Cy-young caliber righty, and the Astros have always hoped that Jake Meyers would take the CF job in their ideal world. I'm not sure what the big deal was.
So that huge catch didn’t earn him a spot opening day? A guy that wasn’t playing gets the nod? Has nothing to do with his batting average. He was a part of the team that won. He contributed.
But Doesn’t that seem like “Jeff Bagwell”, non-analytical, type thinking? Reward him for nostalgia reasons?
Really? Is it nostalgia? Dusty has proven to us all that he is loyal to a fault. So, why not let the starting CF that helped him get his first and only ring play opening night? The team was being recognized as WS champs. How the F is that nostalgia?
What do you think the market for rentals is going to be? What makes this year different than any other yr? Click rebuilt the bullpen at the deadline.
What do you think the market for rentals is going to be? What makes this year different than any other yr? Click rebuilt the bullpen at the deadline. BTW when is the trade deadline this year?
Everyone that argues that Dusty has to use Montero... what happened back when roster were only 25 players...?
When the team is celebrating the World Series- ring ceremony, special jerseys, etc. And the choices are between the starter all 6 games of the World Series or semi-proven not top prospect guy who did not make the post season roster and they are extremely similar in ability, its a slap in the face to not start Chas in at least one of those games. Especially if they are so close that the manager benches the "starter" in favor of Chas after he craps the bed those 2 games.
chas also had the big HR off Garrett cole in the ALCS. I know you think McCormick’s contribution was small or irrelevant but then what was Jake’s contribution to our only untainted WS title? Who contributed more during the regular season? It was an obvious personal snub by Dusty.
He has an OPS 100 points higher than Julks for the season. He has 11 LESS PA this month while posting a .912 OPS. The anger is completely justified.
Completely NOT ridiculous. I'm not going to sit here and tell you Chas is an All Star. What I am going to tell you is that he has been better and more consistent than Meyers their entire careers. ( eventhough I like Meyers more) And Corey Julks can't even carry his jock. Julks has been a below average MLBer with a couple of hot streaks the entire season. The idea that Dusty lumps the 3 of them together and rotates them without giving and extra consideration to Chas is malpractice.
