Raley isn’t a young guy, he’s a scrap heap veteran. Wouldn’t have taken much at the deadline at all to fortify the pen with 1-2 guys who would’ve been way less likely to melt down like James and Raley just did.
I want AJ Hinch back, I don't care that he cheated......I want a manager that is a winner. Dusty Baker has been a terrible manager for years. DD
Ok, rephrase my statement from "young guys" to "young guys and scrap heap veterans". Unless they're long relievers, why do it. James I get more than Raley, but I'd rather see both get in and out after a successful inning at that point in the game.
A lot of unknown at deadline. If playoffs weren't wonky about off days, Astros would be fine pitching. Astros should have expected fewer off days, but not this. I am livid. I hope Click is livid.
There weren't any picks to deal.... I'm not sure what you expected. The only team that made any sort of major move was the Padres. Whitley wasn't getting traded.
I'm not livid over not making trades as there was too much unknown. I should have had a transition. I'm livid about Dusty not deploying what little great pitching they have in a high leverage situation. Dusty managed like it was the regular season as if he was trying to increase odds to win both Games 3 and 4 instead of managing to increase the odds that the Astros won at least 1 of games 3 and 4.
Really? Thats a huge statement, where these guys just sitting around and hasn't Raley been pretty good all year?
Given his arm slot and pitch mix, Raley is very good against LHB and pretty bad against RHB. Unfortunately, the A's are very RHB heavy so Raley is typically not going to be a good option against them with the three batter minimum rule. I agree with others above that the move to make was to go all out with Javier given that we may never have a better opportunity to win this series than the one that was presented to us in the 7th yesterday.
I think any manager that has a 7 game series in front of them with no days off, has a hard job. I am on the "do not trust dusty" side too btw. I dont know who came up with the idea of nonstop baseball but they need to be shot. I could see shotgunning the wild card and the alds, but damn, can we slow it down for ALCS and WS? Anyway, everybody is on the same playing field and are all at a disadvantage within it, so leggo. Time to nut up or shut up.
